It would be a help for you if you work up north at an Oswego County school, when you want to visit the snow resorts 20-30 miles south of Syracuse, when you want to take your snowmobile to Barnes Corners or Tug Hill or out in the rural countryside. A 4 wheel drive would mainly be advantageous when you go out in the countryside. Lots of guys buy a 4 wheel pickup as a matter of course.
I should have been clearer about the above. On a day-to-day basis, you will not need a 4 wheel drive vehicle in the Metro Syracuse/Suburbs area. Expressways & main roads can be completely dry as long as it hasn't snowed in the last few hours or currently. Side streets, like mine are either dry or wet from roadside melting snow. Roads in the outer countryside can also be a similar condition. Maybe a few snowy or ice patches on very rural not often travelled roads.

I was talking about the times that you might be driving IN/DURING A SNOWFALL or ? STORM ?, to travel south of Syracuse to visit snowboarding areas OR if you travel up to Barnes Corners and other Tug Hill areas with your snowmobile on a pull-behind trailer. That's when you might possibly want a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Also if you lived a good distance away from Metro Syracuse out in very rural Oswego county, maybe you'd want a 4 wheel. For the average person, the answert is no. Only YOU can determine HOW OFTEN that you will be travelling to Tug Hill or the Snowboarding areas during snowfall or snow storms.

By the way, there are a couple good used/new car/truck/vehicle dealers who offer some pretty good prices/deals especially on used (up to one year old) vehicles in case you will be looking for a different vehicle after you move here. I'd be glad to give you their names so you can review their websites to see their stock and the asking prices and compare to Fort Wayne. I bought a good used car (less than one year old, good mileage, excellent condition) from one of them years ago at a better price than I could find anywhere around the larger CNY region.

Default Some capacity

cdr18,

If you are unable to find a job in your chosen field, perhaps this company could use your talents in some capacity. Just a back-up idea. You can look into it.
