After a week straight of high, mid-summer-like temps and full, relentless sun, I don't blame him! lol - my husband is mowing our third-acre right now, stopping every few minutes to shake out the grass... and I'm raking up the tall, cut grasses as he goes. It's sprinkling VERY lightly but the lawn looked SO bad- he must! We're going to PA for my brother's grad. this weekend so neither of us will have a chance to mow then.

I bought supplies to wash my truck but am going to have to keep holding out until this rain stops. Looks like Sat or Sunday. I don't remember last year being like this at all.

Last year was a pretty strange Summer. Very nice. Perfect balance between rain and Sun. Prolly as close to a perfect Summer as I have seen in this area.

This year is closer to what I consider normal Sun wise. The rain is for sure more.

A couple years ago, 2-4 years, we had no Summer. That year sucked. The Sun never came out the whole year. My Dad took all the kids up to Water Safari in August and we friggin' froze!!!!

Lets hope it isn't like that again although I will say this year is very similar.

Today is my 4- year anniverary of moving here. This was the worst winter I have seen since moving here. The bugs are going to be really bad this summer, I can feel it.

Skeeters are a huge problem here and your right, this year is gonna be bad.

Walk through your yard and dump anything that has water.

Oneida used to have spray trucks but we been to broke.

This weather is not confined to the Syracuse area. Just about the entire eastern seaboard has had the same type of stuff all spring. At least we don't have to worry about our houses being inundated, unlike those poor souls down south. And yes, the mosquitoes are terrible this year, the worst since we've been here. As an aside, I managed to mow the lawn between the raindrops today, with only 3 stops to clear the deck on about a two acre lawn. I can't complain.

I also got my lawn mowed last night!!!

Unfortunately flooding is a very real concern here. Many sleepless nites.

I'm not really sure what to make of the weather this year. Its very depressing. I need to stock up on Sunshine for the 11 Months of Winter.

I am genuinely curious-

What about a cloudy sky makes it so you don't feel like you can do anything outside? How does scarce, intermittent drizzle affect anything but a trip to an amusement park? We have parties and BBQs, take walks and go to the farmers' market and zoo in the rain...

Snow, I get- but what's so awful about rain? And half-hearted rain, at that. It doesn't stop most people in the more Rain-Is-Accepted climates (Seattle, Portland, etc.)...

I agree! I LOVE the rain - you don't believe how jealous I am for all the wet weather you've been having up north. While we've been blessed with a very late-season cool spell (we didn't even break the 50's yesterday ), we haven't had a decent rain in two weeks now, and it looks like we'll go 3 or more before we get more rain. Par for the course for the Southern summer, unfortunately. The sky is 100% clear today, and will be the same tomorrow, and the next day, and the day after, on and on for weeks and months on end. By July, you can't buy a cloud around here, let alone a fully overcast day...LOL. You have no idea how sick I get of seeing the sun for day after day after day, for so many months on end. It just gets old, like really old. And the heat and humidity just sucks to beat the band. How do I long for the pleasant, invigorating days of winter.

I hope you save some of the gloriously cool, cloudy wet days for when I visit in July...

Seattle and Portland do have a reputation but be aware that its not nearly as depressing there as here. I actually am spending this weekend loading a POD for someone who is leaving NY for the very reason that Seattle has better weather.

Lots of people like seeing the Sun. Have you heard of SAD?? I understand you try to be happy all the time but remember you posted the other day that you have a gross of empty wine bottles.

On that same note are you aware that there are three famous "bum wines" and NY is home to two of them?? Out of 50 states isn't telling that NY has 66% of the market covered?? Many an AA meeting has started with the words "I bought some Mad Dog.........(or Thunderbird)".

Last nite I stayed ahead (by about 5 minutes) of the rain and smoked a chicken. That poor bird met his end by foul play. And what a tasty end he had. Gonna smoke another brisket this weekend for the people that are helping me load the POD. Awesomeness.
