On the one side of me is a abandoned home. A soldier took his life in it and it has been sitting empty ever since. Coming up on four years now. The bank owns it and pays a landscaping company to mow every once in awhile. The weather has beat the crap out it but as you can imagine, the downfall is the history of the place. I don't know if they will ever be able to sell it.

Was he in combat not long before that occurred? I'm only asking, because I wonder if being in combat may have contributed to the suicide and hear/read stories of soldiers/veterans having a tough time dealing with those circumstances when they get home.

Yes it is and I sometimes wonder if soldiers that come back get the support they need. Some may think they don't need it or whatever, but there isn't anything wrong with getting help especially after trauma like combat.

It's not publicized much but the suicide rate in the military (active and retired) is extremely high. As of 2010, it was 22 a day. It's climbing drastically still but the DVA has been reconfiguring the parameters, no doubt to make it appear lower instead of higher. There isn't much recent, solid data.

That is sad. I think that soldiers that don't have the immediate support of family may be worse off, because they may not have someone else around to observe potential signs of depression or other signs prior to suicide.

Proulxfamily is correct, not much publicity. I can't remember the exact amount of times he was deployed But it was very high.
Twenty two years old, no family around and just a few friends. Of course I go back in my mind thinking what did I miss??
No answers just alot of questions for those left behind.
