Default Baldwinsville–Lysander suburban Syracuse pictures

Since a few people were interested in Baldwinsville, NY (a northwest suburb of Syracuse, NY) and one forum member just moved there, I thought it might be helpful to show my pictures of the Baldwinsville area. Just to clear things up a bit. Baldwinsville is a village in the town of Lysander. Baldwinsville is the name of the school district in Lysander. Therefore for all practical purposes you can interchange the words Baldwinsville and Lysander since one is the town and one is the village. But both represent the same suburban area. Not to confuse things more but Radisson is a planned community (has walking trails, tennis courts etc.) in the town of Lysander. Also the Town of Van Buren has a part of the village of Balwinsville in it. Since Van Buren has little new development, its not as important as Lysander, where all the new growth is taking place.

Village of Baldwinsville population is 8,000
Radisson population is about 9,000
Town of Lysander population is about 20,000
Van Buren population is 12,000

Like I said in another post, Baldwinsville has a lot to offer. Rolling hills, the Erie Canal/Seneca River, the views of the countryside from Route 370, Radisson planned community, B'ville downtown and waterfront, Beaver Lake Nature Center Park with all the walking trails, and the its all very close to all the retail development on Route 31 in Clay. OK, now that you know a little about B'ville and Lysander here are my pictures:

Radisson Planned Community

Erie Canal/ Seneca River

Village of Baldwinsville

Town of Lysander

I can do a picture thread for DeWitt and Manlius. I'll try to add some basic info too. It might be helpful in deciding where to live, but if you have any specific questions that would be better.

Onondaga Hill has some incredible views. I might post some of my pictures that I took from Onondaga Hill later. My fear is that all my picture threads might become annoying to some people. So, I'll try to spread them out over time.

I visited Syracuse two years ago to check out Syracuse University, and I fell in love with the city. I hear nothing but bad about the city's crime rate, but my parents and I wandered off-campus into the city proper, and we felt very safe. I only chose King's College instead because, at the time, I was in a relationship and foolishly wanted to stay as close to Scranton as possible to be nearby. (Stupid idea! LOL!) I want to compliment you on your great skill with photography; I've been taking shots of Scranton, PA recently, and I can't wait to likewise show off my skill (or lackthereof! LOL!)

I don't want to seem demanding, but could you also post a few shots of Syracuse for those of us who are sick of seeing housing developments everyday wherever we go? LOL! That city just seemed like it had so much to offer (but Scranton still feels like "home" to me!) ;o) Thanks!

Thank you ScrantonWilkesBarre! Sure, I'll do a thread showing downtown Syracuse.

I'm a little different than you. I don't mind the suburbs... or sprawl as others like to call it. I realize that most people just want to live where they can feel safe and send their children to good schools. The fact is that its hard to find that within most older cities like Syracuse. I bet though, if the area is able to attract thousands more jobs, investors would come and clean up the city a little. The City of Syracuse has a lot of potential, but not much is going to change unless the region can attract more jobs so the poverty does down and the growth in population will attract developers who may start fixing up older buildings. Public money can only go so far in transforming an old city. That's why when you say we should curb sprawl, it's not realistic. People choose to move to the suburbs because the city lacks what they want. The city needs help, but it wouldn't help the region if you just outlaw suburbs because most would choose to leave the region for NC if there wasn't any more houses where they could live in the suburbs.

I'm happy you like the City of Syracuse though. It could use more boosters like you.

Nice job bella, you really capture the essence of B'ville. I think I recognize almost all of those photos. You are pretty good with that camera.

Thanks^

I took some fall foliage pictures this week in Lysander. Not the best pictures, I was hoping to get better shots of the rolling hills but due to the glare of the sun it didn't work out....
