Very funny article! I used to live near that Wegmans. I moved to a state where there are no Wegmans and for a while it was on my top 5 missed things about CNY. (Seems sad unless you know the Wegman's experience). It took a few years but I'm 100% off my Wegmans addiction. Can't do all my shopping at one place anymore... but when you're not freezing you *** off, its quite not as important. Thx!

Thanks, bellafinzi. I have enjoyed your photos before. I am interested in the Syracuse area and am just wondering... with just a few exceptions, it seems most of the homes there are in developments and all look very much alike. Are there any sections of the town/village there where homes are older or have a little more character? Brick or stone or something? And do you have to drive everywhere or is there a walkable downtown? Thanks!

Thanks!
There are many villages where you'll find older homes with character. Unless you live on a bus route or live in downtown, you have to drive everywhere.
Syracuse does have "Ontrack" though... OnTrack - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It's a small regional train service. For years they've had plans to extend it to the Train Station and the Airport/northern suburbs, but the construction of one section is a major obstacle.
"IF" Destiny USA ever gets built , they plan to built a....don't laugh....a monorail system. Just like Disney World they say. I'll believe it when I see it...there was an article about it in today's paper.... Syracuse.com

It's one of the side streets off Enders Road. Probably Kimball Road or up towards Hobnail Road.

Relocating to Syracuse
Hi Bellafinzi. I enjoyed your photos! You seem to know a lot about the different suburbs. My husband and I are hoping to relocate in a few weeks to Syracuse and are looking into the suburbs as possible places to live until we can purchase land and build our dream house in a year or less. Please share your knowledge of the differences between Dewitt, Manlius, and Fayettville in terms of quality of life and real estate values. Also, please share which would be most accomodating to young professionals without children. Thanks in advance!

Thank you vidivichi! Dewitt, Manlius, and Fayetteville are all nice suburbs. Jamesville is good too. Some parts of DeWitt closer to the city limits have higher crime rates and property values can be higher since it is very close to major employers like SU and SUNY Upstate.
The only areas I'd avoid are East Syracuse, DeWitt next to the city limits and Minoa.
Manlius and Fayetteville are very similar. Fayetteville is a little closer to the city, so the commute is shorter. Both share the same school district, which is one of the top districts in the State, so property values should stay strong.
The older part of DeWitt near Erie Blvd can be depressing. As a general rule in the Syracuse area, if it feels "depressing" driving through a neighborhood...chances are property values won't appreciate much and quality of life is going down. As long you as stay in an upscale part of DeWitt, quality of life and property values should stay strong. The JD school district is good, so many doctors, lawyers, college profs live there.
Hope this helps!
