Pictures of Manlius, NY a suburb of Syracuse
My picture thread of Manlius, NY- an eastern suburb of Syracuse, NY.
Manlius is a village and a town. I'll be showing pictures of both, but my focus is on the town, not the village. Fayetteville is a village and a zip code in the town of Manlius. So is Minoa.... Minoa, to the north, is a middle class neighborhood, while Fayetteville and Manlius toward the south are the upscale areas. None of my pictures show Minoa.
Fayetteville and Manlius are the upscale areas in the southern part of the Town of Manlius. Fayetteville and Manlius is also the name of the school district nicknamed locally as FM (Fayetteville/Manlius). The FM area doesn't have the easy access to highways that most other suburban towns around Syracuse have. Some around here think that's a good thing, I don't. The FM area is hilly. Lots of rolling hills with views. The FM school district is rated one of the best in Upstate NY, in the top five, I believe. Growth in Manlius is slow. Much slower than in the northern suburban towns of Cicero, Clay and Lysander. While the northern suburbs of Syracuse have many Wegmans grocery stores (three, two in Clay and one in Cicero), the eastern suburbs have only one huge store, soon to become the largest Wegmans store with yet another expansion. This DeWitt Wegams is even bigger than the ones in Rochester or the Washington DC suburbs. So if you live in Manlius, you have to drive a few miles to get to Wegmans in DeWitt.
Town of Manlius population is approximately 33,000
Village of Manlius is approximately 4,000
Village of Fayetteville is approximately 4,000

Hope you liked my pics!

Great photos! Quite appealing to me. How do you compare this area to Camilllus?

Okay, I may be crazier than even I thought I was/am, but...
Anybody agree that there's something unique about the Great Lakes states' summer skies? When it's NOT gray and drizzly, is there another area that has so many days of those cottony rolling cumulus clouds? The sky in these pictures looks like something in a kid's story book. You can just feel the breath of the Lakes in these pictures. And the Village looks great.
Thanks, Bellafinzi!

Hey bellafinzi
I'm just noticing from all of your very beautiful pictures. There just seems to be no sidewalks anywhere.
By the way I'm in Southern California with no hopes of ever even being able to afford any sort of entry level type of dwelling, so I'm sort of attracted to your area.
I keep reading things that say don't move to upstate New York unless you already have a job lined up. Is that true in your opinion.

Thanks brahmos and dcomposto!
dcomposto, Camillus is more middle class, Manlius is more upper class. Camillus has highway access, Manlius doesn't. The hills are different. Both are nice areas. There are a lot more differences including they both "feel" very different from each other. That's all I can think of...hope it helps.
HBJohn, thanks! About jobs. If you have experience and certain skills, especially in the medical, engineering, or some teaching fields, then finding a good job may not be too hard. But in general, you are right. You should research if there are job openings in your line of work before you move to Upstate NY.

Thought I'd share a funny article about the DeWitt Wegmans (the largest in the chain) with former eastern suburbanites who moved away from the Syracuse area...
East Siders tough enough to handle bigWegmans
