Thanks! Just don't expect the whole city to look this good. As you can see from reading "estimated_eyes's" great posts, sadly there are many trashy neighborhoods.

estimated_eyes,

I'd have to disagree with you about the level of trash in NYC vs that in Syracuse. I've seen plenty of trash in Manhattan though it's way better than it use to be. This is not to excuse Syracuse, I do agree that there's too much there and in addition could use a huge influx of flowers to spiff up the place. But you have to remember that unlike CA where things grow most all the year, Syracuse has to deal with road salt and plowing which don't result in much beauty. The sluggy customers you've encountered are a whole nother story.

You have a very valid point regarding the progress thing. It typically takes 20 or so years for this area to catch on to things that started in CA though you will find some who do live this way. You've got to look harder for them as people don't automatically jump on the newest things enmasse like they do on the west coast. One reason for that is that history has to be incorporated into any chnages here quite unlike the west where it's not so fundamental. The other is that seasonal changes, while enjoyable, do take up our time in the task department.

I like to say, why complain, when if you're a person who can see the difference, why not make a difference by trying to change things? It's a bit more difficult than, say in CA where it's almost hard to be in the forefront as things move so fast, but I would have to say that it's probably more rewarding to say you've made a difference.

Can you please list some of those "so many alternative things to do and so many things going on"? Thanks! I'd list to suggest them for Syracuse.

BTW, here's just some of the events going on in Syracuse this weekend....

Empire State Brewing and Music Festival
Empire State Brewing & Music Festival

Syracuse Nationals
Right Coast Cars - Syracuse Nationals

Great American Antiquefest
The Great American Antiquefest

New York State Blues Festival
Syracuse.com

K-Rockathon 12
KROCKATHON

Middle Eastern Cultural Festival
St Elias Orthodox Church Syracuse NY

If you can't find something to do in Syracuse during the summer, then you're not looking hard enough.

True, Bella, there's no lack of things going on here at all. You don't usually see the entirety of an event made into a tv program as is often the case in CA (because of nearness to Hollywood film studios). Better to go in person anyway.

I'm thinking it's the lack of a health food store or jazzy coffee shop on every corner, car-share programs, extensive recycling and reuse, and things of that nature that aren't as prevelant here being referred to. Things purported to be new are sometimes old concepts reborn.

I find we're a more independent lot than a mass movement one and it seems this person hasn't been very aware (or is very homesick). I see gardens in people's yards all over we just don't call them 'organic' gardens, they're gardens that people have planted forever. And thrift stores, they're all over.

Exclamation Syracuse is bad

When I was in Syracuse I was very depressed. The buildings are old and crumbling, the economy looks terrible, there were a lot of homeless people, and there seems to be no signs of improvement.
