Thank you for all the information. Yeah SU football does suck..but I was always more of a basketball fan myself. The reason I thought of Liverpool is because its all I know and I really havent heard too much bad stuff about it now. I do know I have options like Bville, Solvey and the such.

Im glad to hear I wont have a problem finding a nursing job. Im just concerned for the kids. We live in a small city an hour north of Milwaukee right now. Im hoping Syracuse has more to offer for the kids than little old Fond du Lac, WI.

I really am homesick for Syracuse despite the negative comments I read about the city. It will always be home to me. And I know the old adage is true..you can't go back home..and nothing will be like I left it. But my family is in Syracuse.

I DO remember the Penn Cann Mall. I got my first job there at Charney's Mens Shop. Sad to hear its gone..but it was on its way out before I left when they built the Great Northern Mall.

You're welcome SarahN.

In my opinion, the northern suburbs are much better than they were in the early 90s. Lots more development, more stores, more restaurants, hotels etc.

A couple more photos of the City...

That steam station that heats Syracuse University ruins all the photos taken from the south. Who's brilliant idea at SU was it to build smoke stacks in between Syracuse University and Downtown???

My favorite building has to be the Syracuse Savings Bank building. I worked there in the late 80's when it was Firstar and the building is absolutely beautiful inside and out....especially at Christmas time.

Of course it’s depressed. The Syracuse MSA hasn't grown in population in over 35 years. If the region isn't even growing, how the heck do you think the city can be revitalized? That's why we elected Spitzer...to bring population growth back to Central New York. If the CNY economy is booming, this will spill over into the city neighborhoods.

He'll be lucky if he isn't impeached over the driver's license fiasco. You may be placing your hopes in the wrong quarter.

Sorry, I need to get this off my chest.

I'm really disappointed in Spitzer's "City by City Plan" for Syracuse. I'm not sure what I was expecting....though I know that a new parking garage, an already planned streetscape plan, already planned 5 story residential structure and renovation plan is NOT going to do much to "transform the Syracuse economy"...as Spitzer stated.

The Chip fab just outside Albany "transforms an economy".... a new parking garage and streetscape plans do not. The parking garages and street improvements are something that should be a given in any major city.

http://blog.syracuse.com/news/2007/1...eFactSheet.pdf
(To add insult to injury, they have to throw in a Potsdam project under "Syracuse-based" projects. Potsdam is over 100 miles away from Syracuse.)

If Spitzer has passion, it sure isn't for Syracuse. A passionate person would have seen that Syracuse needs two thing to grow: a new image and new jobs.

1) New Image. I would have loved for Spitzer to take one of the three buildings already proposed for downtown Syracuse...like the Westin Convention Center Hotel.... chip in an extra $10 million from the State to make the building a high-impact image transforming high-rise/skyscraper roughly 30 stories in height. That could help transform Syracuse's bad image.

2) New Jobs. Now wouldn't it be great if Spitzer's passion could lure a New York City company to expand to downtown Syracuse and bring 2,500 new jobs to CNY. That would help transform Syracuse's bad economy.

Well, I learned two things today. Spitzer is just another downstate politician. And the CNY economy isn't going to boom within the next 5 years.
