To give you a heads up on Solvay, it is a blue collar suburb with an urban character just west of Syracuse. There are actually around 6500-7000 people in the village. It has one of the highest percentages of Italian Americans for a community in the US. It also has a relatively large Slavic(Polish and Ukrainian) population, along with a decent Irish population. Black and Hispanic populations are small, but noticeable and have been slowly growing there for about 10-15 years.

It has neighborhoods that range in terms of looks from an economic and size standpoint. There is a curfew for those 16 and under, if I'm not mistaken. Crime I believe is still below average.

It is the location of the NY State Fairgrounds. There is plenty of shopping close by in Fairmount/Camillus and the Carousel Center is only about 5-10 minutes away. Milton Street, its main street, has some businesses, as does the West Genesee Street corridor in the village due mainly to Westvale Plaza.

Schools are OK. Test scores are around average, give or take and the graduation rate is usually in the high 70's range, give or take. Football is/has been big there in almost in a Western Pennsylvania way and it has the setting to boot.

That is pretty much all I can think of right now.

Solvay has great deals on utilities and you won't find stray cats roaming around.
