New opportunities for Griffiss unveiled in State of Oneida County : News : CNYcentral.com
http://www.cnycentral.com/news/story.aspx?id=728306

During his State of the County address Tuesday morning, (Anthony) Picente told the crowd new flights could be coming to Griffiss. Picente says Allegiant Air is strongly considering direct flights from Rome to Florida. Picente says the airline looked at Rome and saw the growth potential there. He says the addition could help attract jobs to the area.

I said this while Syracuse was grappling with establishing an Airport Authority, Griffiss is a great location to attract travelers from both the Syracuse and Utica/Rome metro areas, among other areas. I would certainly consider flying into Griffiss as opposed to Hancock if the price was right. If this succeeds, I would bet that Jetblue would consider making a similiar move to Griffiss where (I believe) it still has maintenance services. I hope this is a wake up call for the Syracuse Airport Authority (SAA).

Yup, it would be great for the both of us, plus there is some competition. Not sure which Florida airports, but it did say Orlando. Allegiant also flies into Fort Lauderdale, which I can also use since I am down there from time to time.

I understand living in a small market I'm gonna have to fly in puddle jumpers but paying top dollar to fly in uncomfortable crap planes gets old.

Driving to Rochester is an idea I need to start working on, so much cheaper it makes me cry.

Hancock is such a crap airport. The WiFi never works. Nothing to eat or look at. Delays delays and more delays causing the mad dash at the connecting airport. All this for a super expensive ticket.

We had a horrible time in Febuary. I'm about 99% sure I'll be driving to Florida from now on. I can make it to Tampa in about 19 hours a little tired but in good spirits vs flying and being pissed for 19 hours plus the flight time.

I gotta fly to Seattle in a couple weeks (via Atlanta!!!!) out of Syracuse and I'm dreading what will go wrong this time. Thank god I'm driving back.

Albany's Airport may work for you too. They have cheaper rates too.

Being from the Valley Albany has always been my go to airport. Much nicer then Syracuse but paying to park and stuff is a pain. In the Winter I hate leaving the car so me and some buddies go back and forth dropping each other off.

And airport in Rome would be super. Orlando wouldn't be much help but Miami could work or Tampa being best.
