Syracuse is way above the national unemployment average.

Many of these "highly educated" jobs talked of here often come with HUGE government liabilities. One item you guys here seemed so very happy about recently I divided the tax breaks and grants by the number of "new jobs" and it was basically a wash.

The number three employer, and may well be number two soon, in the Syracuse area is the Oneida Indian Nation. Store clerks and blackjack dealers may be good people all but "highly educated workforce" may not be the right term. Number four is a grocery store.

My own industry has added hundreds of jobs to this area. No grants, loans and other government games.

Government is choking this area, this state and this nation to death. Get rid of the "highly educated" people with all the grants and subsidy's them seem to come with and this area could really take off. Maybe if we backed off the people doing the actual work with the absolutely unreal taxes people would say "by golly its nice to keep my own money that I earned and put it into my own house and area instead of sending most of it to Albany so they can dream up some "highly educated" crap".

Actually, the Oneida Indian Nation is in the Utica-Rome area. This says that the unemployment rate for the Syracuse metro is .4% over the national percentage for unemployment: Unemployment Rates for Metropolitan Areas

Also, if you read the original post, the last sentence is what I'm referring to in terms of an increasingly educated workforce. So, that is what probably accounts for the increase in salary.

OIN is in Madison County which is Syracuse Metro.

Scroll to economy/top employers.

Their HQ may be in Madison County (city of Oneida) but the bulk of their employees I would assume are at the casino in Oneida County.

Counts for Syracuse, don't ask me why. Most of the employees are from Syracuse side anyway.

Somethings count more then once. My job is in the Syracuse area but we have a sister plant in Oneida County but most people count everything as Syracuse. Plus we are owned out of state so we count for them also. I think one job can be counted like 8 times if its near a border.

The politicians would love to count a job 8 times; especially if people are gullable enough to believe it and its election time.

"As governor, state senator, state assemblyman, county executive, mayor, town supervisor of ______ I have been responsible for creating or saving _______ jobs." (Of course 99.2% of them were saved instead of created, but lumping them all together sounds better)

That is exactly what I was thinking and I believe that many of the casino employees come from Oneida County too.
