Default Onondaga Hill - suburban Syracuse pictures

Onondaga Hill is located in the Town of Onondaga, which is a southwest suburb of Syracuse. The area is very hilly and rather isolated compared to most other suburbs of Syracuse. There are no highways or big retail stores in the Town of Onondaga. You would need to travel a few miles to Camillus or Geddes for shopping. And the town isn't eager to add a shopping mall because they fear it will attract shoppers from the southside of the city. That's another topic. Westhill, the school district that covers most of the town, is a very good school district and still small compared to other school districts in the area. There are both upscale and middle class new housing developments under construction in the Town of Onondaga. Main roads in the area are narrow because most of the town is still rural. The road that is called "13 Curves" (Cedarvale Road)- a famous local legend about a ghost haunting a road - is located in the town of Onondaga. So is Split Rock. Onondaga Community College and Community General Hospital are the two main employers in the Town.

Town of Onondaga population is about 20,000

Photo tour- first pictures are of a housing development in the town of Onondaga- the later pictures are the views of Syracuse and other suburbs from the housing development on Onondaga Hill

Thanks! This neighborhood is called Brittany Hills. Very close to Skyland Meadows though.

Great pictures! Maybe add a couple of the new dorms at OCC and the hosptial?

Have any shots that show the downtown at night all lit up in the distance coming in from the 'Res' on Rt 81?

Beautiful pictures. We will be relocating to the Syracuse area next month. Are those homes in the pictures expensive, or what is average cost? Thanks.

Thanks! Sorry, Sgoldie I don't have pictures of Community General Hospital, the OCC Dorms or downtown Syracuse lit up at night. This summer I plan to get some better shots of Camillus, maybe I'll head down to Onondaga Hill to get more pictures there too.

cnybound, thank you! These homes are expensive for the Syracuse area, most are probably in the $300,000 to $500,000 range. The main reasons being many homes have great views and they are located in a great small school district called Westhill. There are other Town of Onondaga neighborhoods nearby in the West Genesee School District where you can buy a new decent sized house for about $230,000.

There are some newer homes available or that can be built in the Skyland Meadows subdivision (Westhill School District) for around 200,000. I have looked into building in the Westhill school district area and haven't found a lot of options like some of the other suburbs of Syracuse. Most newer homes in this area seem to be more expensive.

dcomposto, you're right. I once looked at a map of the school districts. The Westhill school district covers a very small piece of real estate. And since there is only about two parcels of undeveloped land left, the prices are going to be higher due to supply and demand.
