Help with Syracuse Rentals!
Hi there,
My fiancee and I may be moving to Syracuse soon and we are having the hardest time finding good apartments/houses for rent online. It doesn't seem like there are many large (1100 sq feet+) two bedroom units available. We would also love two bathrooms, washer/dryer in unit, and if at all possible a balcony for our grill. Maybe I'm asking too much but those things are easy to find here in Boulder and we generally have a ton of guests so the space is a must. We don't mind being in the suburbs as long as it doesn't take too long to get downtown (no more than 30 minutes I would say) My fiancee works for Cargill and it would be good if his commute was around 40 minutes or less. We don't know anything about the area and are feeling some trepidation moving so far away when we're having so much trouble finding a good place to live. I've checked out realtor.com and apartmentfinder.com and others and have found a few options, but I know some places don't advertise through those sites and I'm just hoping we can find something better. Please help if you can! Or if you know a realtor who is willing to help us find a rental please let me know!

I forget to mention that our budget is 1200/month max, though we would like to stay around 1000. We are also open to townhomes or condos, we just really need an apartment with the right amount of space! I have seen some posts that say 900 sq feet is huge for an apartment in Syracuse but it's just not what we're used to. I don't want to seem spoiled, 1200 sq feet is pretty standard for a two bedroom around here and like I said we always have a lot of guests. I'm not trying to step on anyone's toes, I'm sure Syracuse is lovely, we're just having a hard time finding a place, so any help would be much appreciated

In that sort of size range, you may have better luck looking at rental flats (which you're likely to find more that are 3 bedroom than 2) - there are a lot of rental flat 2 family homes in the area that would rent well within your budget. They tend to be older houses, but they're there.
The housing stock in general is older here. But at least in the university hill area, there are plenty of 1000+ sq. ft. 2 family homes that rent for less than that $1000 a month. The two bathrooms and in-unit washer/dryer are likely to be harder to find in those sorts of properties - hookups are generally in the basements - but you may find something like that that suits your interest. Watch Craigslist (be wary, of course, of scams/fake listings) - but there's a lot out there.
Not one I'd chose necessarily, but this is an example of the type of building I'm talking about : LARGE, CLEAN DUPLEX - there are hundreds, probably thousands, of these types of 2-family homes throughout the city. This one (no photos) is closer to the university area and the immediate area's a bit of a mixed bag but it could be good, depends on what you're looking for in a neighborhood: university 4 with porch and Parking
