I'm up here from SC visiting family, heading home next week, and would love to take back a bushel of good tomatoes. The tomatoes in SC taste like cardboard! Any suggestions?

Wake up early Saturday morning and head to the farmer's market. If that isn't an option, there are plenty of other locations. What area of town are you staying in?

over near Bellevue Golf Course, and I'm not much of an early bird. I'm thinking maybe a farm stand somewhere?

This is definitely your best bet. The Regional Market goes until 2pm on Saturdays, so you don't necessarily have to get up early... it just gets super packed later in the day. You can get a whole basket-full of tomatoes for a few bucks, all local grown!

The market is on Thursdays and Saturdays - today is Friday, it is not open.

Check out the Silver Spring Market on Seneca Turnpike. It isn't far from where you are. She may not have bushels, but if you tell her what you want, she may be able to fill a bulk order.

Yes, I couldn't think of the name, but this is the one I was thinking about. That website has a nice list of places throughout the area too: Find a Farmer! Cornell University Cooperative Extension of Onondaga County
