My husband and I moved to Syracuse about a month ago, and while I really like Wegmans, I'm wondering if there are better options for buying meat. I guess I got spoiled with our local market we had back in WA which sold really high quality, all natural meats for very reasonable pirces. I'm not really a fan of Wegmans "regular" meats and while I do buy a lot of organic products, the prices for organic meats make me crinch a little. Are there any alternatives/ hidden gems around the area that I haven't discovered yet?
You might try the CNY Regional Market, located at 2100 Park St. It is open on Thursdays (through November) and Saturdays (year round), 7 am to 2 pm on both days. It usually has several natural meat vendors, along with lots of produce, fish and breads. Try it, you may be very pleasantly surprised.
Mazzye's Meats is a great little meat market in Liverpool for quality meats and buying in bulk. They will order anything you want. Mazzye's Quality Meat Mkt - Liverpool, NY
If you are looking for grassfed, shop the Regional Market and there are quite a few farm stands around.
Definitely the Regional Market! FYI - the earlier you go, the better... as the market fills up with people very quickly and vendors may run out of product towards the end of the day. I've never personally bought meat from the market, but I know there are several vendors that sell it.
Agree with ToeJam... I have also heard good things about Mazzye's as well, although I've never been in there before.
Duh, can't believe I forgot about that one! I am friends with the owners
I totally forgot too. I go by the one on Grant Blvd a few times during the week. ToeJam's post about Mazzye's Meats got me thinking about other meat markets in the area.
I'll have to get up early and check out this market in Syracuse once I'm settled in my new house! I wonder if Rochester has anything like it........
