Man, I don't understand why there has been so much road construction this late in the year anyway. I can't ever remember seeing road construction like this well into Fall. I don't know if funding is the issue or what, but this odd.
They got the roads all tore up with the sewer and manhole covers all sticking up all over.
If we get an early Winter they will not (like in 100% not gonna happen) be able to plow. Rt 5 is a fairly major road too.
Lotta business on 5 have laid off people. Been stories in the paper about how this construction nightemere is killing everything except the unions. Not even counting the countless ruined tires and paint jobs. My new car looks like a 1979 Nova with all the paint chips. Thank you NY.
I think this quote from the story explains NY in a nutshell:
"McDonald said she issued the postponement order about 9:30 a.m. -- a half hour after workers started to close the highway -- after studying the project Thursday night and this morning."
This is what happens when there is no planning. They have known about this game for a long time, but no one did anything until the work had already begun.
The vehicle of public funds is running on fumes and has been for a while now... repairing/replacing vital infrastructure is a smart move, to say the least.
I'm personally glad to see all the road reconstruction and resurfacing road work being done all over Upstate New York. I've seen a lot of road work being done in the northern suburbs of Syracuse. That includes many resurfacing projects and replacement of many water culverts and small bridges.
When the Republican Governor of Florida refused Federal stimulus targeted Infrastructure money for a high-speed rail system in Florida, NY-U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer said yes, New York State along with a few other States will be glad to divide-up/accept additional funds meant for the Florida project. That stimulus money will help build NYS infrastructure projects, help fund private company road-worker jobs, and help maintain the Quality of Life and quality of infrastructure here in New York State. I wholeheartedly agree with Senator Schumer. New York State is one of the Top Ten quality states in the country and we want to keep that status and our high quality reputation. All kinds of infrastructure across the country is in need of renewal and updating. I'd rather spend the money on United States infrastructure than on Iraqi & Afghani infrastructure and foolishly continue to spend money on the military-industrial complex co-horts to wage even more wars and manufacture endless amounts of bombs and bullets=which we seem to have train-loads of money for!!
Don't forget 690 East is closed from 81 to Teall Ave starting tomorrow and is closed until Monday. It will probably make Erie Blvd. a mess too.
My friend got stuck on Erie during one of the closures a few weeks ago. Said it might as well have just been a freaking parking lot.
I typically don't travel on 690 anyway, but is the construction they're doing bridge work? I remember last year they had several instances where pavement fell through the bridges on 690 causing gaping holes
