I just got back from spending 6 days driving around Central NY. I'm from Oregon but live in Arizona. I have no family up there and have no real good reason to move to Syracuse or the surrounding area other than I want to. My girlfriend and I flew up there on the 5th and I didn't want to come home. I was left in awe of all the history and beauty that CNY has to offer. We covered the following cities/towns: Syracuse, Auburn (my favorite), Ithaca, Binghamton, Brewerton, Mexico, Oswego, Fulton, Peekskill, and drove through a few other small towns. Never once was I bored with what I saw. Nothing but pure beauty. It truly is breath taking. Some of the people on this site where born and raised in the area and are a little bored with it. I can tell you I've been to many places in this country and this area tops the list as far as beauty is concerned. I can't wait to move there. I feel like selling everything but my computer and my camera and jumping on the next plane lol.

We both loved it!

Here are some pictures I took while I was there.

Beautiful photos!! I'm so glad that you enjoyed your time here... and perhaps you can better realize the frustration that those of us who live here and love it feel when people disparage the area. I don't know what they're seeing but I sure don't see it.

And just think, you came here at *truly* the ugliest time of the year. lol - it gets so much more green and leafy and vibrant, as the year goes on.

Thanks for the great picures! It looks great there. My husband and I are going to visit this summer. I will be sure to take a lot of pics when we are there, but I don't know if they will come out as nicely as yours

Great pictures and you will have to check out Cazenovia, Skaneateles, Hamilton, Peterboro(for historical reasons), Sackets Harbor, Alexandria Bay, Seneca Falls, Waterloo, Geneva, Sylvan Beach, Pulaski/Salmon River and Old Forge, among others. All of these places are within an hour and a half. Unfortunately, many people in the area don't take advantage of living so close to so many places to enjoy.

I hear you on that. If we had another couple weeks I would have covered pretty much the whole state of NY.

When we got there everything was covered in show. It was the prettiest thing I have seen. When we left most of it was melted. Still very very pretty. I can't wait to see this place in fall when all the colors come out.

And thank all of you for the nice comments about my photos. I'm a photographer but haven't shot for myself in years. Arizona is very uninspiring... And all tough I didn't take as many pictures as I could have I really had fun shooting out there. We got up and hit the road everyday at 7:30am and I'm not a morning person at all. That's how excited I was about exploring this state. On the west coast when you drive around like I did in NY I get really bored because of the scenery and just want to hurry and get to where I'm going. I was never bored at any time out there. Just looking out the windows in awe.

One thing I need to mention to out of town people. If you drive to Binghamton or through it be very careful that you drive within the law. They have cops all over the highways in that area. I didn't see any the whole way there and then all of a sudden they where everywhere. So be careful in that area.

This is especially true in the warm weather... fireworks are illegal in NYS, unless you have an expensive permit, training and insurance, but they're cheap and legal in PA. A lot of the stops in Binghamton are technically for speed but also as a check stop for illegal fireworks from PA, drug trafficking to/from NYC (coming down I-81, from the Canadian border), checking for large amounts of cash, weapons, etc. It's probably a good source of revenue for the area.

True...It seems like when you are heading south, they are usually hiding some where near Whitney Point.

Also Magicians Eye, Fall is the best time of year around here and it is gorgeous. Take a ride down Route 20 and you will lose it, because it really is beautiful.
