It is too far away, as it is in between Rochester and Syracuse. Like ToeJam said, Pompey is very rural, but has good schools(kids go to either F-M, Caz or Fabius-Pompey) and depending on where you are in the town, is still pretty close to shopping in Fayetteville.
Cazenovia could work, but it is more small town in character. With that said, it is still close enough to shopping in Fayetteville and has very good schools, while being closer to Turning Stone than Fayettevile or Manlius. You would probably have to take Route 13 and either take Route 5 or get on the Thruway at Canastota and go east from there. There is some information posted on this thread about the community as well.
Were you able to check out any of the listings posted on here?

What, exactly, are you looking for in a house/property? How many bedrooms/bathrooms do you need? Are you big on entertaining or more of a homebody, looking for a cozy, nostalgic kind of place? How much yard would you like? In a well-laid out home, it can FEEL big and more than adequate, you won't need 2000+ sq.ft.
Cazenovia is more Norman Rockwell, to put it as well as I can. lol

We are looking for at least 4 bedroom and 2 1/2 bath. I would like it somewhat newer or updated. Larger master closet is a must as well as good kitchen.

4 bed. house UNIVERSITY AREA AVAILABLE 6/1/13 or sooner
Just to give you some perspective, you're going to pay about double to rent (as exemplified above) per month than a mortgage for buying. But, it is within your budget and you may have *some* leeway to negotiate down to around $2200. This is a fairly high cost for a home rental... but you'll find higher rents around SU, as landlords expect students to pool together their personal rents of around $500 each/mo.
I'm going to look for more...

I agree and the house that I posted in the J-D School District seems to fit the criteria too. Dewitt Real Estate - 612 Bradford Pkwy, Dewitt, NY, 13224
