Default Syracuse suburban town –Camillus pictures

Camillus is the most populous town in the western suburbs of Syracuse. After years of no growth and declining retail, Camillus is coming back to life. Camillus Mall was torn down to make way for a new strip Mall, Fairmount Fair is getting a new Target, and there is even talk of another retail development in town. The western suburbs of Syracuse are finally starting to stand on their own without the need to go to the more populated northern suburbs (150,000) or the more wealthy eastern suburbs (60,000) for shopping etc.

Camillus is a hilly town with a highway connecting it directing to downtown Syracuse. This is the town for you if you wanted to live near the Finger Lakes, but still in the suburbs of Syracuse. Camillus’s West Gennsee school district is very good. Sorry, I do not have many pictures of the housing developments in Camillus. Most of my pictures are of the rural western part of town. I may get better pictures in the future.

Town of Camillus population is about 24,000

Tour starts in the rural part and goes east toward Syracuse

neat looking building!

Old Camillus Mall is gone

Some good news for Camillus....

Road could pave the way to retail
After a year of negotiations, state approves link of Hinsdale and Bennett roads.

By Jerry Rosen

The state has approved a road that will link Hinsdale and Bennett roads in Camillus and open the way for a $50 million retail-residential project on Hinsdale Road. The connector road will run parallel to Route 5 on state-owned land, starting across from the Route 5 westbound off-ramp at Hinsdale Road and ending opposite the similar onramp at Bennett Road.

elmerr, the Syracuse suburbs haven't seen as much snow as Oswego County in the last week. Only about 6 inches of snow fell here in Onondaga County, while in Oswego County they had 60+ inches. It's been mostly sunny here since Saturday with on and off snow showers.

While there is a little more than a foot of snow on the ground in the Syracuse suburbs, it's not that impressive compared to the 7 or 8 feet in rural Oswego County.

Thumbs up Camillus Pictures and Info

Just a tid bit I picked up in other chats. There is a "new" restrauant openned up in the Village of Camillus. It's called the French Kiss and is in the Green Gate Inn as they used to call it (and I think still do). It has gotten many RAVE compliments so I think if one is looking for a new place to try dining out it sounds like it might be worth the drive.

gandalf222 and cuse, do you happen to know why Carol Baldwin, mother of the Baldwin brothers, lives in Camillus? I believe one of the Baldwin sisters lives in Camillus too. I've always wondered why the mother of the Baldwin brothers moved to CNY...

Stephen and Alec Baldwin are often seen in the Syracuse area visiting their mother/family.
