The subject has come up before in these forums, but I was curious if I could some updated responses. What are some recommendations for places to live and have kids in school that are "affordable" for interracial couples in the Syracuse area? More specifically the Liverpool/Clay area perhaps? That seems to be the most affordable housing that I can see (130K-150K range)

Many of the homes in this list should/could fit: RealtyUSA - Property - Property-List

These would work in terms of suburban areas, for examples: Dewitt Real Estate - 137 Hathaway Road, Dewitt, NY, 13214

Dewitt Real Estate - 305 Radcliffe Rd, Dewitt, NY, 13214

Clay Real Estate - 5542 Taormina Dr, Clay, NY, 13041

Salina Real Estate - 401 Sunflower Dr, Salina, NY, 13088

Clay Real Estate - 243 Blackberry Rd, Clay, NY, 13090

I would consider private schools but would really like an excellent public school sector to save money. Thanks for the info

I would say to look at Jamesville-DeWitt in particular, but to still consider districts like Liverpool or North Syracuse, among some others. J-D is a highly rated school district that is pretty diverse in various ways. So, it sounds like what you are looking for and it is close to shopping, hospitals, a couple of college campuses, highways, etc.

This may give you some idea about the schools and how the kids interact in them: CNY Proms: Syracuse and Central NY Prom and Senior Ball News and Photos - syracuse.com

This should also help too: Onondaga County | New York State Education Department Data Site

I know that it is older and a little over the price range, but it has a lot of room and it is in a district that fits some of the things you are looking for: Onondaga Real Estate - 4416 Young Rd, Onondaga, NY, 13215

Or perhaps this one: Onondaga Real Estate - 4191 Norton Rd, Onondaga, NY, 13215

Onondaga Central School District

While the school district isn't as diverse as some suburban SD's, it is in a very good SD, is close to shopping and the city: Onondaga Real Estate - 304 Merrell Rd, Onondaga, NY, 13219

It is very close to the HS too. I went to school in that district and I believe that you would be fine. That house is a steal, in my opinion, given the taxes, price, school district and location. Westhill School District

Schools in Westhill Central School District - Syracuse, NY | GreatSchools

I will say that if your daughter worked at say the Wegmans down the street, she would be working with and interacting with a diverse set of people due to the fact that it is in an area just outside of the city where the neighborhoods/people can vary culturally and economically on either side of the city/town line. Safety wouldn't be an issue as well. Here is a streetview:
