I'm working on a class research project and I would appreciate any input gained from this forum.

We have to determine why shoppers (syracuse shoppers) in particular use plastic disposable bags offered by the grocery store -- instead of recyclable bags?

I would appreciate any comments or feedback.

Thanks so much.

My take is that many shoppers may use those plastic bags for other uses, including reusing them when they go shopping until they may deteriorate.

When people have a choice they seem to prefer the plastic bags. Out west where my family lives they outlawed plastic bags so it's all paper or bring your own.

I grew up when everything was in paper bags. About the only thing they were good for was book covers for school and starting fires. Since they were all we had I never thought about them much and then they were gone. Last year I was shopping in Seattle and of coarse I didn't have any cloth bags so they gave me paper. They suck now that I been using plastic. Hard to carry and tear easily. B

Give me the throw away plastic.

I typically would use reusable bags, but would sometimes forget to bring them, so I'd get plastic. I do reuse my plastic bags for various things like using them in my small bathroom trash cans, picking up dog poop, etc
