After a 4 months hiatus, I'm ready to return to going to a gym regularly. Given I'm new to the area, I'm not too sure what gyms are near me.

I'm more a free weights kind of guy, and don't really attend fitness classes. I've checked out Gold's and Planet Fitness. Gold's is a little too expensive for me (almost $600 a year), and Planet Fitness is kinda basic. Any recommendation for gyms that would fit what I'm looking for?

p.s. anyone been to Hercules Gym?

Maybe the YMCA in Fayetteville, the Jewish Community Center on Thompson Road, Trillium in East Syracuse, Well Rounded Fitness on Collamer Road in East Syracuse and Flex House of Fitness in the Eastwood neighborhood on Sunnycrest Road. If you want to travel a bit north on 481, Champions Fitness in Cicero might work too.

The Jewish community center is actually right by me, but I'm not jewish (lol). Would I still be welcomed?

As far as I know, it is open to anyone. It just has a Jewish basis/focus, but anyone can go.

I would also check out Fitness Forum in DeWitt across from Wegmans.

Fitness Forum Health & Wellness: <#PAGETITLE#> (http://www.fitnessforumhealthclub.com/trainerfinder/websites/60179/ffhw/index.html - broken link)

Yeah I intend to check the Fitness Forum out. Location-wise, this place is pretty good for me, and we all know how important this is, especially come the winter.

I am a member of Fitness Forum and enjoy it very much and the location is great. I pay 499.00 per yr. I might add the people are very nice and friendly. If you don't want to talk to anyone, thats ok too .

Your best bet may be the Gold's gym on Widewaters Parkway. Besides that, the Bally's at DestinyUSA could be another option. There's also Champions Fitness Center in Cicero and the other Gold's Gym location in Liverpool.
