I agree with this although I don't agree with the sign itself. Putting that sign in front of your house just makes you a target for letting people know you either have guns that can be stolen or you have something good that you want to protect. It's like leaving valuables in your car in plain site.

Or that you don't like our governor disregarding the Constitution of the United States to push his political agenda. I don't own any guns or have anything worth taking, but if I lived in a house, I'd have one.

Interesting take, but I see what you saying.

Or all it shows is that signage has become available, that's all. It isn't like leaving valuables in plain sight; it *would* be like leaving your laptop on the front seat of your vehicle with a sign explaining that the car is booby-trapped to shoot anyone who attempts entry. People don't tend to bust into a house with x-unknown numbers of guns, to steal guns. It would be incredibly stupid and dangerous for the thief. That's the point. If you carry a pistol? That's a different story. <---and also unlikely, with how difficult it IS to get a permit for a handgun.

Hah! I love it. I'll definitely have to check that place out.

And yes, the PowerCon and Scare-a-Cuse events definitely look like they'd be up my alley. I'd have to check those out as well.

And of course, the little political debate going on upthread definitely makes me feel right at home.

You may also like Recess Coffee in the Westcott neighborhood. Definitely a Hippy/Hipster type of hang out. Mello Velo also in the Westcott neighborhood, is a bike shop/cafe as well. I guess the Kind Coffee Company in the northern portion of the Near West Side supposedly has good coffee as well. There are others in the surrounding communities too.

Do you like live music venues, cultural festivals, etc? I'm just trying to see if there is anything else you are looking for.

Haha, I was going to say, Bony T, doesn't this make you feel right at home. I could have sworn I was back in Ohio.

Well no one's accused Obama of hating white people yet, so New York's still in the lead. ;-)

I have to admit I've never heard of this "Safe Act." (Opens a can of worms... )

It isn't that hard to get a pistol permit. It just takes time and a lot of follow up. They will give them to just about anyone that is willing to put in the effort. I know two people who recently got theirs and I wouldn't trust these people to walk my dog. One has a DUI and the other is on medication for being bipolar. They just hope that making it difficult will turn people off from trying.

As far as breaking into a home where there are guns being stupid, I agree, but criminals are not always the smartest bunch and desperation causes people to do crazy things.

I've never heard of anyone getting a permit in this county but I'll admitt I don't ask every one. It's important to remember that in NY the law isn't set by the state but by the county. I have heard of people being allowed to have a gun in Oneida County which is about 50 feet from me. Same state. Different worlds.

The part that bugs me about the laws here is gun ownership is illegal unless you jump though the hoops. In other words in NY you are born guilty and it's up to you to prove your not. Very unAmerican.

Many states require a process to be allowed to carry a gun in public. Even Texas. But in NY you can't even buy a gun to protect your home. It would be nice when I hear something go bump in the night to tuck a gun in my waistband and see what's up. If it's something I get to waste a couple scums. If it's nothing I go back to bed. But because NY is retarded I gotta go out waving a shotgun around like a madman because some old ladies dog has a tummy ache at 3 am and she stopped in front so poochie could take a dump.
