I was having a conversation with another employee and the discussion was about the lack of an extensive shopping area or options in the area. Do you think this is true? There was also a discussion about big name stores/restaurants on the Hill or the lack there of. Are such establishments necessary in that area? Where could they go? We were comparing the area to our experiences in Lawrence KS and East Lansing MI as well.

I would love a Banana Republic and cheap furniture store on Irving Street. Of course, we need a major grocery store too. e.g. Wegmans/Trader Joe's.

I think the biggest problem with something like a Wegmans, Trader Joe's is there is just no place to put it.

Also, Tops on Nottingham Road is close enough. Perhaps a grocery store between Erie Boulevard East and East Fayette near the Biotech Center may work.

Probably cheaper to pay a cab to take you to Fayetteville and back haha!

Tops is just ridiculously expensive.

The area around UNM has mostly boutique type shops and small restaurants. Not much in the way of national brands.

I'm afraid I don't know Syracuse well enough to compare.

It is similar to what you describe here as well: Welcome to University Hill!

The B.I.D. » Crouse-Marshall

These areas are close as well:
