As of 2006, the Syracuse Metropolitan Area is now ranked 80th in population.**

That is a drop of 20 spots in just 6 years!!! Not only is the Syracuse Metropolitan Area losing ground, but the Syracuse TV media market (or Designated Market Area (DMA)) dropped at least 6 spots.... from about the 74th largest in the late 1990s to 80th today.

**The Syracuse Metropolitan Area lost one county (Cayuga) when the new 2005 MSA definitions came out. (Auburn is now a micropolitan area.)

Gotta have a reason to move to Syracuse...
Manufacturing was the reason that city hummed. The last 10 havent been kind to that area (Carrier was one of many....). They lost 20% of ALL their manufacturing within a six year period earlier this decade. Once the baby-boomers that settled there die off...you will see the real effect. Think Buffalo, Rochester, Akron, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Erie PA, Toledo...etc...

Syracuse has a lot around it as far as natural recreation....the key is getting an industry to keep young people there. You also have the winters to contend with...many young upstaters and many others want no part of it.
