Thank you Bellafinzi, for your Strathmore photos! Very beautiful area.
Just wondering though, could we buy a nice house for $175-250 range? My husband has a solid lead on a job in Syracuse.
Appreciate any info on this Strathmore area. We really like the older homes and aren't afraid of hard work and fixing up an old relic.

My husbands prospective firm tells him he needs to live 30 miles or less from the city (Syracuse) for his job.
Thanks for your suggestions and info.

No problem and if you need any information, just ask. By the way, if you look for houses, i suggest Onondaga County. It is the county that Syracuse is in.

Thank you PineHallGirl!
Strathmore is a nice part of the city, but I'd be wary in saying that it's your best option....especially now considering the national economy. Strathmore is located on a hill. Just down the hill between it and downtown are some of the roughest neighborhoods in the city. So if the national economy ever should take a severe downturn (a depression), then I'd be worried about anyone living a neighborhood like Strathmore, which is so close to those poorer neighborhoods.
You can find nice older houses in the suburbs for very reasonable prices, many are located in nearby villages. The best suburban villages are Liverpool, Fayetteville, Manlius and parts of Baldwinsville. If you work in Syracuse, Baldwinsville is probably about a 20 minute drive to Syracuse, Liverpool, about 15.
My Liverpool/Town of Salina photo tour thread

I also have a photo tours of the Baldwinsville (Under Town of Lysander and Town of Van Buren) and Fayetteville/Manlius (under Town of Manlius) areas though most of those photos where taken just outside the village(s) proper, in the newer suburban areas.
An area to consider is Fairmount (Town of Camillus), quiet, many older homes, close to Strathmore, an interstate, and a decent shopping area.

Bellafinzi, thank you for taking such great photos and posting them. I would love to see other village pics if you have them...its like being there only a whole lot cheaper!
I'll check some of them out now! Thanks so much.
Ever heard of a place called, "Pompey"?

I agree with Bella. While Strathmore IS absolutely stunning, it's restricted to JUST that neighborhood. Strathmore is nestled on a hill between the two worst sides of the city... as subtle as blocks of homes selling in the $200-300's, the next block selling in the $70's, the next block selling in the $40's. In a time of economical instability, people resort to less and less dignified behavior to get by... those in already impoverished areas historically turn to crime soonest.
But again, Strathmore is lovely and the other side of it is Onondaga Hill (a good area.) Upper Onondaga Park is so beautiful that it seemed the obvious place to marry, in its stone Gazebo on the water.

That's why i offered Sedgwick and the Scottholm area of the very nice Meadowbrook neighborhood too. Both are just as nice and are surrounded completely by nice neighborhoods as well.
Pomepy is a nice rural area of Onondaga County, that is Southeast of Syracuse. It's school district is Fabius-Pompey. A place that might be comparable in Michigan would be something like say Leslie or Pewamo-Westphalia to Lansing or Caledonia to Grand Rapids, but with some affluent people as well.
