Got it. It's close to Segdwick and Schiller Park. Nice area of the Northside too.

Definite local favorites:

Stella's - yummy diner fare. Wish they were 24-hour, or at least later-night, but they certainly pack them in during the day.

Dominick's - not the best italian around here, but great portions for the cost.

Pastabilities - a bit noisy, but good portions and relatively reasonable cost for Armory Square.

Appethaizing (Campus Plaza, behind Marshall St.) is pretty good. The owner used to be a chef at Lemon Grass, I believe. Bangkok Thai out in Liverpool is good as well.

Tokyo Seoul on Erie Blvd. - pretty good in my experience

Steak and Sundae - pretty good food, I'd go more often if they took cards.

Doc's Little Gem Diner - no longer 24/7/365, but still a heckuva diner. Hardly fine cuisine, but I suppose I'm a bit of a diner junkie.

Coleman's in Tipp Hill has good food and it's a beautiful building.

There's a great little ethnic central american/hispanic restaurant (Don Juan's? something like that) over on Grand Ave near S. Geddes. It's not in the greatest area, over near Fowler High School, but the food is good and the portions are huge for the price.

I agree about the building (and the bar), but must respectfully decline to agree about the food! The only good thing I've ever had there is their French onion soup. The rest of the food I've found to be indifferent, even for pub fare (and their restaurant service leaves something to be desired). Maybe they assume everyone should be too drunk to care, or maybe I've just tried the wrong dishes.

What do you recommend for food at Coleman's?

PS: The best French onion soup in CNY is at Quack's on Route 20 near Bouckville.

Hrmm. I enjoyed the Guinness Beef Stew there the last time I was there... but then again, who knows, maybe it's just because I like Guinness and was nursing one through the meal too.

Does anyone know of a good Polish restaurant in Syracuse? I just had some in New York City and I'd like to find a place up here with similar offerings.

Eva's, in Solvay.
1305 Milton Ave
Syracuse, NY 13204

If you head toward the Fairgrounds the back way... down Avery Ave (Tipp Hill) to Milton, take a left, and Eva's is on the left. Great food there!

Another good spot is Sweet Chunky's BBQ in Shop City Plaza. They are about to open another one up in Fairmount across from the Pizza Hut too. Cheap prices with good portions and good food.

Hrmm. I haven't dropped in there, but good to hear a good review. They have signs in the former Syracuse Fried Chicken (and before that Fajita Grill, and before that a McDonalds) on S. Crouse Ave on the SU Hill.
