Favorite local restaurants
The recent post about chain restaurants made me wonder, what are people's favorite everyday restaurants in the area, the non-white tablecloth establishments?
My personal choices, which I'm sure I've mentioned a few times elsewhere, are Alto Cinco on Westcott Street and it's fried catfish burrito, and Varsity pizza on S. Crouse, which has the best Spinach Feta pizza you will ever eat. After being in Philadelphia and New York, which should have better choices, I still make a Varsity pizza my first meal when I come back home.
Steak and Sundae, though I haven't been in a while, is on my list, as is the Dinosaur Barbeque, of course.
Your thoughts?

I LOVE the Log Cabin Inn in Lafayette...great wine and food!
I'm also particular to the friendly service and comfortable atmosphere of the Mission Restaurant.

Bangkok in Liverpool. Some of the best Thai food i have never had in my life. Whenever i make my way back to Cuse it is must do for me. the funny part is the owner still remembers me, and he is such a great guy. He comes out the kitchen to great all his customers.

I should've put the Mission on my list. It's not your average neighborhood restaurant, but it is unique, and it has some great food.

Our favorite place to eat in the entire area is the Gristmill restaurant in Parish. Great food, great prices, and the friendliest people. Its always full of an assortment of people, we love to watch the snowmoblies in the winter.
We also love Wacky Wyatts in Baldwinsville. Good food, nice beer, a place for the kids to play, and good bands.
Both offer laid back family atmospheres.

kmbell, I was in Syracuse this weekend for business. I decided to take your advice and check out Alto Cinco for my last meal before flying out. It was a pretty cool place, definitely had the college flavor to it (I especially liked the CPR instruction poster displayed on the front counter). The food menu was unique to say the least. I'd describe it as a Mexican-American seafood menu...with lots of vegan options....and the thickest fresh baked cookies I've ever seen. An employee was filling the cookies and didn't have room to display any more oatmeal/walnut/raisin cookies so he gave me one for free, wow that was good. I had the catfish burrito, which was delicious too. The place was solid. If I ever go back to Syracuse I'll make sure to include that on my list of places to eat.

On the SU Hill Acropolis on Marshall St is another good place. If you want pizza Varsity's better but Acropolis has good stuff. I highl recoment their gyro and baklava.

That's great to hear, the Fried Catfish Burrito is amazing. An old friend of mine is actually the cook there, so I'll pass on the compliments.
Tonight will be my first Friday back in the 'Cuse, so I'm going to head out for some Spinach Feta Pizza at the Varsity. If you're ever back, check it out.

Has anyone tried Las Delicias on Westcott St. where Acropolis Pizza (not the Marshall St. one) used to be?
It seems to have stood the test of time, since it's now been there for 3 or 4 years. I've only been there once but the food was good, a basted rotisserie chicken and fried plantains.
