The economic benefit to the Syracuse region would be phenomenal.

It would and the Drone industry is in the area, but I'm wondering where it would go and the area lacks a couple of things that Amazon is demanding. Perhaps in the Inner Harbor area or land near the former Hancock AFB. This is the area near the Inner Harbor that I thought of: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0631...7i13312!8i6656

The old portion of Hancock AFB that isn't used and not too far from the airport, SRC and next to the Hancock Business Park: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.1215...7i13312!8i6656

This is true. The fact that Amazon already has a big presence in NY could be a plus though. Its good to know that state and local officials are taking this very seriously. I think there are plenty of qualified people within the state of New York who would be willing to relocate to the Syracuse area to work for Amazon. Probably people from other states as well.

That is true and I think that the area could hold way more people than it has. There are institutions in and near the area where talent could come from. Hancock International would have to add non stop flights to Seattle and SF as well. CENTRO could add more lines and perhaps the area could bring back OnTrack, if not expand on it if possible. You never know, but you also have to consider other areas in relation to the factors that are important to the company. Some OnTrack information, for those that aren't familiar with it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OnTrack

Airport Strategic Plan: http://www.syrairport.org/wp-content...tegic-Plan.pdf

On the flip side, the city/area location is pretty nice in relation to the Bos-Wash Corridor and major Canadian markets. That in turn could help spread growth out to nearby areas similar to what GE did when it was based in Schenectady. During that time, Syracuse, Binghamton and I believe Utica all had GE facilities at one time.

Some more information that could be used if the area does give a plan: CNY Drones connects all the key players in the emerging industry | syracuse.com

NYS makes big investment to grow CNY drone industry - Story

Walmart to start testing delivery drones at CNY airport | NewYorkUpstate.com

Education | Onondaga (especially the 4th section)

http://www.nahb.org/en/research/hous...ity-index.aspx

https://www.cbsnews.com/media/top-10...ral-disasters/

Close proximity to a substantial amount of the world's freshwater supply could be another factor to mention. https://www.epa.gov/greatlakes/great...ts-and-figures

Another potential tie in for Upstate NY could be for Wegmans to get involved, as Amazon has aligned itself with Whole Foods: https://www.forbes.com/sites/panosmo.../#7b40ba3e2730 What I believe Wegmans could do is make a pitch in terms of being a high quality, highly acclaimed supermarket that has relatively reasonable prices with a high demand. With Dronetechnology in CNY, Wegmans could team up in order to expand its footprint via Drone delivery, as well as possibly expanding its store footprint and its HQ operations in Gates.

Airport expansions across the state could be another factor to mention. Syracuse airport to get $45 million upgrade, create 869 construction jobs | syracuse.com

Instead of looking at this as strictly a Syracuse plan, make it a CNY(if not Upstate) plan. Doing that includes the whole region with its 1.1-1.2 million people, other institutions(Cornell in Ithaca and SUNY-IT in Marcy) and industry locations in the region to where there is potential for growth like drones and Nanotechnology in the Utica-Rome area. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_New_York

I would sincerely doubt it (since they listed a requirement of a 1M metro population) but it'd be a heck of a shot in the arm if it happened.

Just to throw this out there, but Syracuse University's South Campus has a lot of land at the top of Skytop Road and it even has a sign saying "Syracuse University Research Park" in that area. There are also rumours to shifting students from South Campus and having them move towards main campus. It is interesting that there are so many college student based housing projects occurring in the University(Hill) area and perhaps there is a chance of even more land opening up on what is South Campus.

You already that shuttles that run from the top of South Campus to main campus, which allows people to also take the Connective Corridor bus to Downtown or even the bus that goes to Destiny USA.

There's also the possibility of if OnTrack was brought back, it had a Syracuse University stop near the west lots below the Carrier Dome. There is also a shuttle that brings workers from that area to main campus and could be another option in getting people to South Campus.

OnTrack went by or near Armory Square, Tipperary Hill, DestinyUSA, the Transportation Center(rail and bus) and NBT Bank Stadium, with the potential to expand. It also had a seasonal run to Jamesville Beach.

You would also have University area neighborhoods, Marshall and Westcott Streets within close proximity via bus, bike or even walking distance, let alone a short drive.

That location could also serve a similar purpose that the Inland Port in Jamesville would have served in terms of relatively close proximity to neighborhoods where people need jobs, perhaps serving in technical and non technical(think supply chain) capacities.

Here is a video about Amazon delivery: https://www.bizjournals.com/seattle/...RAD?autoplay=1

This is where the local drone industry could play a part in this.

Also, SAAB Sensis based in East Syracuse could play a part in terms of air traffic control. Saab Sensis

Here is some information on industries mentioned earlier in this thread and other economic information: https://esd.ny.gov/regions/central-new-york

There have been commercials playing in the area about said information as well. Some have likely been played in other parts of the state and perhaps the country as well.
