Skaneateles infomation?
Hi - my fiance and I are relocating to the Skaneateles area in June. We would like to rent a home (2-3 bedroom) in or near Skaneateles. Auburn is a possibility, but definitely not ideal.
We've just begun the search process. Can anybody provide me with some resources to point me in the right direction? We've looked at Craig's list, skaneateles.com, Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce....
Thanks in advance!

Also you may want to look at Moravia or Groton if you want to save $$$$$. If you have stable Jobs or occupations then you have your pickings but if you do not you could be in for very big trouble, as that area has a very depressed economy with high taxes, food & fuel bills and gasoline as well. Cayuga County or near Corning and bath NY does much better.

We have stable jobs; my fiance is starting a position there, which is the reason for the move. We're fairly familiar with the area (we live in Ithaca now). Just looking for some help with the housing piece....

Realtor.Com is useful. But I would recommend being careful about your basement and ground water, as in that area near the Preble NY, the Water tables are like at times as shallow as 2 to 4 feet down and have a nitrate problem due to lots of farm run off. So you may want to look now, when everything is melting to make sure your basement is dry. But if you are renting an apartment then you have no worries unless you have kids then you may want a single family home.
What kind of work does your husband do? Good Luck!

I live and work in Skaneateles and can understand the difficulties you've encountered trying to find a rental in town. There just aren't that many and the very few make it to the public forums like Craigslist. I've sent you a pm and would like to help you if I can.
Regards,
Joanne

Possibly the weirdest town name I have ever come across. How do you pronounce this?

It means "Long Lake" in Iroquois.
I pronounce it: skinny-atlas
