Relocating to Syracuse end of year--???'s
We are relocating to Syracuse from Charlotte toward the end of the year for my husband to open an office for his company. I have been doing tons of researc on everything (places to live, housing, places to put his office, commute times, things to do, schools, etc.). You name it, I've researched it. The one thing I am having trouble really finding are pre-k programs or preschools that I can look at on the web. I have 2 little ones 3 and 4 that I want to find a program for 4 days a week 9-1 while I help my husband get his office organized and running efficiently. Does anybody have any information that can help me???? I did find one facility that looks really nice and sounds great, but I have to get use to the fact that things are going to be so much more expensive than in Charlotte. It has been 10 years since I lived in NY so it will be an adjustment for a little while at least. Cost of the program is triple what I pay per month for my kids now. any help is so appreciated!

Have you narrowed down your search to a particular town? Knowing that might help us with daycare suggestions.

We haven't. My husband is waiting to find out from his company what part of Syracuse his office will be in. We have been looking at Fayetteville/Manlius, Camillus, Tully and area north of the city so if anybody has suggestions for that area, please let me know. Does Onondaga County schools offer pre-k programs?

I used the following information for someone else who is moving to Syracuse. I thought you also would like a summary of Syracuse and its suburbs from wikipedia.org. It provides pictures, history, economy, demographics, and other links, including a number of Syracuse suburbs and recent events. I can only say that the school districts in many of the townships are very good.
Syracuse, New York - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Clay, NY is one of the northern suburbs of Syracuse and rapidly growing (see attached).

There is also Cicero and Lysander to the immediate east and west Clay respectively.

Keep in mind that North Syracuse is split between the Towns of Clay and Cicero. The Village of Liverpool is located in the Town of Clay. Closer to the Syracuse University is the Towns of Dewitt and Manlius.
DeWitt, New York - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Manlius (town), New York - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
You may also consider Camillus which is west of the City of Syracuse. You may want to keep your eyes out for a brand new lifestyle center called Township 5 that will include, retail, office, residential, hotel, and theatres (see attached).

Cameron Group, LLC - Township 5
You may also want to consider the Town of Onondaga, which is south/soutwest of the City and has a pop of approximately 20,000 people. There is a major community college called (appropriately) Onondaga Community College and it is growing. I understand that a major mixed use (residential/Office/retail) is about to break ground across the street from the college with approximately 250 new homes.

There are a whole host of villages that surround the City that you may like as well, including Baldwinsville, Skaneatelas, Fayetteville and Cazenovia that are worth looking into.

you mentioned Westcott (nice SU neighborhood) and try Eastwood...

I think you will like CNY, I am very excited about the transition in the Central New York economy from a rust belt community dependent on heavy manufacturing to a knowledge based economy focused on research, development, aerospace, academics, medical and most importantly environmental technology, i.e. the Center of Excellence (under construction) downtown near SU. You may also hear about destiny usa, a commercial mixed-use shopping/entertainment/research develoment that has been heavily debated over the years.

Anyway, best of luck with your move.

Here is a number to call with any questions regarding public education in Syracuse. It is from this forum, but buried in the Syracuse statistics.
Public Schools Information: Syracuse City School District, 725 Harrison Street, Syracuse, NY 13210; telephone (315)435-4499
Don't know if it is still active, but I hope it is. They should be able to tell you which districts have a pre k program (I think 3 do).
Good luck.

There are many daycare, child care centers in the area. Learn as you grow has locations in camillus and I believe dewitt, child time has many locations as well, including one in the city of syracuse. If you don't mind an inclusion program with children of special needs there are two centers in the city of syracuse near the dewitt town border, they are elmcrest childrens center and jowonio school. If you end up living in the fayetteville manlius area and commute into the city these two last mentioned centers would be of interest based solely on location, you'd be driving by them to get into the city

I live in Oneida, we have a great pre K programs and our school system is one of the best in the area.
Funny we are relocating to Mooresville. Hope I like it.
Oneida is only 28 miles from Syracuse. Thruway is easy and from Verona a great travel way.
Quiet area and great for children

Oneida -Thumbs Up
I live in Oneida also. It is a great community to raise a family in. It is a small city with friendly people. The school system is good and there is little crime here. Plus, housing is inexpensive compaired to other places in the country. There is easy acces to the NYS Thruway. You are close to Syracuse and Utica. The only set back in CNY is the snow and the cold. If you like cold weather you will love it here!
