Default Cicero assessments!

Property taxes in Cicero tripled!!! in some areas. The town is in an uproar and the property taxes are currently frozen till the assessor works it out. This is what happens w/ suburban sprawl every time. New roads, schools, police, infrastructure all must be rebuilt in areas that were once farmland. Stiff price to pay when you add in the cost of commuting to the city w/ gas over $4.00 a gallon. This is just another reason why living and investing within the city of Syracuse makes much more economic sense than living in the far out cookie cutter 'burbs.

Town of Cicero freezes assessments

CICERO, N.Y. - Homeowners in the Town of Cicero will not have to pay taxes based on the recently increased property assessments. After much public outcry, Town leaders decided to base it on last year's numbers instead. Despite the freeze, some taxpayers are still up in arms. And in the meantime, the assessor is defending her position.

Forget the work of the assessor’s office, forget the new numbers. Taxpayers applauded the board's decision to freeze assessments to last year's levels. Town of Cicero assessor Anita Barnello said she played fair when she reassessed 730 waterfront homes that haven't been assessed, she said, since the early 90s.

"All I was trying to do is my job. And bring them up to fair market value. There's huge inequities throughout the waterfront. Everyone knows it, and the majority of them understand," said Barnello.

Just because they dropped it for this year, doesn't mean homeowners aren't going to pay down the line. If your house wasn't reassessed in fifteen years, you're going to pay up one way or another. It was just dumb for the town to try and do it all at once.

johnny99 please do not mislead people.

1) Taxes did not triple in Cicero. Home assessments went up in much of the town. There is a difference!

2) The home assessments that tripled are waterfront homes. Why? a) Homes on Oneida Lake have been selling for more money in the last decade. b) 730 waterfront homes that haven't been assessed.... since the early 90s.!!!

Here is the quote even you provided....

The key word is waterfront.
