Hello,

What is Meadowbrook Drive neighborhood like?

Also, what are the pros/cons of living in the neighborhood versus moving a few yards into De Witt? Taxes, etc. that different?

Thanks!

Taxes are almost the same, $3500-$6000 between the city and Dewitt. The city has the advantage of sidewalks and good services; in most areas on the east side. The east side and Dewitt are not that different really, both are suburban in appearance. Even the schools are very good. JD does have a fantastic and well deserved reputation but the east side public schools are more diverse and not bad by any means. All the school stats are on the web. Both are safe areas . The demographics start to change when you get closer to the University area w/ more rentals but that is usually students and not section 8 types. The neighborhoods are well maintained. Look at Jamesville too if you want to be close to the city and have a rural atmosphere.

Thanks for the info! I'm considering a place on Meadowbrook Drive and was curious if the neighborhood was good/bad, what snow plowing was like on that road, if the bus actually stops on Meadowbrook, etc. Any specifics like that would be greatfully appreciated!

Thanks again!

Default Very nice......

area with diversity and nice people. You have quite a few middle to uper middle class Blacks, Jews and other types of people in that area. You also have people affiliated with Syracuse University that live in the area as well. Safe and quiet with schools that your children can get a good education in. Good choice and you can still find very nice negihborhoods in the city of Syracuse in spite of what people might say about the city as a whole.

Thanks for the positive support for a Syracuse neighborhood that's not a suburb!

No problem, Global. In fact, one of my older sisters and I call that area of the city "Black suburbia" because of what I stated before. For example, my grandmother liveson a street between East genesee and Salt Springs Rd. and she lives across the street from a Black judge, with other Black and White families on that street as well. I know of Black dentists and doctors in that area too.

Also, the high school in that area, Nottingham High, is about 55% Black, with a good amount of other groups like Hispanics, Asians, Jews, Arabs and Russians, among others. It seems to blend in with DeWitt, the adjacent suburb where quite a few of the same types of people live as well. Very good choice and in a very good location.
