young grad, relocation ?s
Hey, I'm wondering a few things and am hoping somebody could help me out,
One of the things I need to know is if there are any barber schools in or around Syracuse?
Second thing I would like to know is if you need a diploma or GED to get into any of the barber schools there?
Third thing: is it true you can't get an apartment without a job?
Please try to answer all three questions, I really need to know. I appreciate any info.

You should call a barber school for the first two questions. Unless you happen to get a barber on here, I don't know how you'd get an answer to those questions. I doubt anyone will rent an apartment to someone unless they can show an ability to pay the rent. If you have the ability to pay the rent without a job, and can prove it, that might be acceptable.

Try.......
these schools here on this page: Syracuse Barber & Beauty Schools in Syracuse NY Yellow Pages by SuperPages
There are some on the bottom. My Dad was a part time barber in the area for 20 years. So, I wish you luck, bro.
As far as the apartment, I think Classical was right on. You have to show proof of payment. Some check your credit too. So, make sure everything is tight.

Thanks to both of you for replying. And tons of thanks for that link, ckhthankgod, and for the luck Now about the apartment thing, what if I was to call the manager or whoever up and send money in advance? If I did that, would I then have a place to live while I try to find a job? Or am I supposed to find a job first when I get there?

Depends...
I think it really depends on the landlord. If you want some flexibility, definitely stay away from complexes. A typical scenario could entail Security Deposit, 1st and last month's rent. That money sent up front may show in good faith that you're good for the rest once you find a job. If you have an offer letter from a job or some other documentation (diploma or degree) that you'll be able to get a job fairly easily, it might be to your benefit.

A landlord does not focus on your ability to pay the first month's rent - as you suggest, an up front payment would take care of that. The landlord wants to know that you will be able to make all of the rent payments as they come due. The landlord also wants to know that you will maintain the premises, and have the wherewithal to respond in damages if you don't. It can take a long time to evict a tenant, and it costs a lot of money in legal fees. Credit and job history are important in showing that you are responsible and have the ability to meet, and history of meeting, your financial obligations. If you have no source of income and no credit history you're going to have a very hard time finding an apartment. That's why it's important to build a good credit history. I suspect most people starting out get the job first and then apply for an apartment.
