Default fulton? -i noticed low property prices here , why? is it a run down city, is it a safe place

Im moving to syracuse soon, i looked at a couple of homes in nearby fulton- I do not know anything about the area, but from what i seen in fulton compared to syracuse - the houses seemed nicer and with larger yards for a good price, first off its only a 25 minute drive to where my new job is going to be - and that seems reasonable in good weather...but does anyone know about that drive in bad weather???
Plus driving through the city of fulton i just couldnt gather an opinion on if it seemed like a place i should be scared of or not!! does anyone know of the crime here first hand??? most of the people seemed to be honest middle class people. how about seward st? anyone hae a opinion on that street/area?

I do not know if I can be of help or not. I lived in Fulton for over 5 years and my significant other for over 17 years. He has told me that Seward Street is not a good place to live. But Fulton itself is very nice. There are good sides to it and bad sides as with anywhere. I enjoyed it very much and Oswego which is about 11 miles away has a great Farm Market (which I miss dearly), as many other attractions. Of course, we always drove to Syracuse to hit the Mall, great dining restaurants, plus the fantastic NY State Fair. (which again brings fond memories) I use to work at Seneca Hill and Bishop Commons which was only an 8 to 10 mile drive, but in the winter could be very difficult. In a "white-out" literally impossible. I feel a 25 mile commute in the winter would be "nerve-wracking" but I have friends who do it all the time. Leave earlier!! First Street, Pollard Street, and Patrick Circle are nice areas. South side isn't the greatest. Crime as far I as know when I resided in Fulton was practically "nill." Very small town feeling. We live in NC now, and I truly miss Upstate, and whether you choose Fulton or Syracuse you really can't lose. I hope this helps.

There is no need to be worried about crime anywhere upstate (villages, small towns, small cities, suburbs, rural areas) other than the inner cities of major urban areas (Syr, Roch, Buffalo), excluding Watertown.

Fulton is mainly populated by the blue collar working class, ie, lower middle and to a lesser and equal degree lower and middle. There are still some active factories and others commute to Syracuse to work. The schools are decent and there are some nice neighborhoods which are apparent upon inspection. Other neighborhoods are run down in condition due to lack of income and lack of jobs.

Homes are less expensive the further you get out from Syracuse particularly to the north including the northern suburbs of Syracuse unless you are on the water though taxes increase somewhat the closer you get to Syracuse.
