Especially after Project Lead The Way gave them all the pre-engineering gear that you could get RIT credit and stuff from, there were plenty of kids from North Syracuse who were going there for that stuff.
Given that most of Fairmount, Geddes and parts of Solvay all have City of Syracuse addresses, that's not all you have to go by.

And for a little ways, Avery is the Syracuse/Geddes border.

True. Anyway, the point of my original comment just to make the argument that school districts can have boundaries separate to town/city boundaries. The fact that that one straddles parts of Geddes and Town of Onondaga still makes the same point, regardless on whether you want to nitpick at the details of what I wrote. The amazing thing is that it was supportive of the conversation and you guys missed the point so you could haggle over its precision. No wonder people stop posting here when they have positive things to say.

Portland also has intrinsic geographic boundaries too, such as the Columbia River (also the state line) and hills west and east of the city. If Syracuse were Charlotte, say, it could sprawl up to Lake Ontario before reaching a natural boundary.

-Oswego County's insane amount of snow almost acts as a barrier to the north.
-The Onondaga Nation Reservation is somewhat of a barrier to the south, along with the steep hills surrounding the Tully Valley.
-Oneida Lake/Cicero Swamp acts as a barrier to the northeast
-The Finger Lakes to the southwest are also a barrier IMO
