Hello everyone, I'm going to be attending Syracuse University this fall and I'm trying to narrow down my housing choices. If I were to stay in one of the suburbs I was thinking of Liverpool or Camillus, which do you think would be a better choice as far as distance and easier in terms of getting back and forth to school during the winter. I visited Syracuse back in January when there was some substantial amount of snow on the ground but still had no trouble getting around. I'm not aganist staying in the city if I could find a nice quiet atmosphere, but coming from a small town of around 4,000, I believe I would be happier in one of the suburbs. If anyone could give me thier thoughts on the suburbs I've mentioned or if you have any other ones to suggest I'm all ears.
Thanks in advance, Roy |

Try DeWitt, as it is a suburb this close by and there are some apartments on Nottingham Road. Out of the suburbs you picked, I think Liverpool is the better in terms of getting to campus and back. It's a bigger suburban area than Camillus too. Liverpool is in the Northern suburbs, Camillus is in the Western suburbs and DeWitt is a Eastern suburb. If you do live in the city, try the Westcott area. Also, apartment complexes like Clarendon Heights, Greenwich Manor and Nob Hill aren't bad and are close to campus.
Here is a website to check out:http://www.bestapartmentsinsyracuse.com/ It has apartments in Syracuse, Liverpool and a few other suburbs. |

The eastern suburbs (fayetteville, manlius, jamesville and dewitt) are wealthier. The northern suburbs are bigger and developed more densely, but they are very nice too, and might be a little less expensive when comparing like properties.
The downside of the suburbs is that there isn't a lot of interaction between people. If you want to be left alone, the suburbs are great. Not so good for developing a social life though. |
