Talking SYRACUSE...West Side Living Safe?

Hi,

My husband and I are pretty new to the area and are wondering if safety is an issue with young children on the West Side. Austin Tract area to be exact.

Any information you could give me on the West Side of Syracuse would be helpful. We are a couple who plan to adopt and would like a safe neighborhood.

I've seen recommendations to live in Manlius, fayettville area but the taxes are WAY too high for us there and we are looking for a moderately priced home in a safe neighborhood as my husband works professionally in the city.

Thanks so much for the help!

R.

If you live on the West side, live in either the Tipperary Hill area or the Park Street area behind Automobile Row. If you want to live in the city, try the East side, Eastwood, the Valley especially south of Seneca Turnpike and the North side around Grant Boulevard. Other areas are Lincoln Hill, Strathmore, Sedgwick and Scottholm.

Default Westside living

I would say that you're better off staying in the suburbs..Eastwood is ok as well as Tipperary Hill but the city is getting worse and worse. East Syracuse is a nice place to live, B'ville, liverpool etc are probably your best bet.

Except for a couple of weekends, it hasn't been THAT bad. Pretty much all of the crime here is not random and the people know each other. There are still quite a few good neighborhoods in the city of Syracuse. Sedgwick, Strathmore, Scottholm, Meadowbrook, Westcott, South Valley(area south of Seneca Turnpike), Northside around Grant Boulevard, Lincoln Hill, Hawley-Green, Westside around Automobile Row/Park Ave., Northeast around James Street/Teall Ave. and Henninger High School and Outer Comstock are some decent to very nice city neighborhoods. Here's the neighborhoods in the city of Syracuse:Syracuse, New York - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

East Syracuse isn't bad, but there are quite a few rentals in the village. All in all, it's not bad at all, imo.

Liverpool is fine, the North Syracuse area is similar and more affordable and Baldwinsville has a mix of housing options and price ranges.

I grew up on the west side and would choose Liverpool for sure if I moved back to SYR.

Yes, we've been looking at liverpool area. We're trying to live in the area of liverpool with the N.Syracuse High School with all the internal problems within the school system right now at liverpool.

So Thanks to everyone here, we have an idea of what areas are safer than others. thanks so much!

There are some nice areas off of Buckley and Bear Roads. Actually, there is a development off of Henry Clay Rd. that is close to Buckley that is nice and more affordable. I think it is called 4 Seasons. Nice area that is considered Liverpool, but is in the North Syracuse SD.
