Default Can anyone recommend a neighbourhood/real estate agent?

My husband and I are considering relocating from western North Carolina to Central New York area. Mostly because its a heckuva lot closer to my family (who are in the Toronto ON area) than we are now, and hopefully the jobless sitch is better than here (currently unemployment rate in WNC is over 8.6!).

Neither one of us are particularly specialized as far as careers go, we both have a bit of a computer background, but we can do just about anything that isn't manual labour (he's not physically capable anymore, nor am I really).

Anyhoo...we don't have children so schools are not important. We have 2 giant dogs, so we DO need a lot of space. We're hoping for a small-ish hobby farm if possible, within about 30 miles of Syracuse. Hubby doesn't like "big cities" and I wouldn't particularly call Syracuse a big city being from TO, but he does, being from small town WNC! You see our dilemma?

Mostly we're thinking Syracuse area because of the proximity to the border, with the train, and stuff to do, both for us and for the dogs. It just seems to fit most of what we need.

Now, we just need to find a house to buy.

If you want a place with land that is away from the city, but not too far, try Baldwinsville, Marcellus, LaFayette, Tully, Fabius, Pompey, Elbridge and pretty much anywhere about 12 miles outside of Syracuse. You guys might even like something in Oswego County, as that still isn't too far and is closer to the border.

Here are a bunch of properties with an acre or more of land:Real Estate Listings and Single Family Home for Sale - Realtor.com

Hope this helps.

Betsey Whitmore - Gallinger RE in Marcellus. She concentrates mainly in Marcellus, Skaneateles, Onondaga Hill area - I believe she is profiled on their website. Good luck with your search.

We lived in Cicero a few years ago and it is about 20 minutes from Syracuse. We had a 4 bed, 2.5 bath with over an acre lot...We paid $215K at the time, sold it less than 2 years later for $235K. Nice area in terms of homes...I just didn't like upstate NY...Very cold and there were not a lot of jobs in that area.
Good luck

Try Kathy Gara at First Prudential Cazenovia for properties in the Cazenovia area. We were very happy with her service.

Thanks again

We're hoping to be able to drive up there for a few days this month maybe, if we can get the dogs into the kennel they like (do you know how difficult it is to find a kennel service that has space big enough for 2 Saint Bernards? )

Specking of which, anyone know of a good dog boarding kennel in the Syracuse area? The one we use now is actually more of a resort for dogs, and caters to the NASCAR drivers in Mooresville. They're amazingly cheap considering, and they don't just stick the dogs in crates, they have an actual room to themselves, with outdoor access. Mine stay together in the same room, which is about 8x8, its awesome. We don't go away often, but we like to make sure they're well taken care of when we do.

Thanks, we might talk to them about some training, but I was more looking for an over-night bording kennel, in case hubby and I decide to go on vacation sometime.

Default Coldwell banker

I also moved from out of state and used Jim Warren as my real estate agent and he did great for us. We came up one weekend and looked at 30 houses in 2 days and he made the process really nice. I would highly recommend him. His office phone is (315) 671-3521
