Relocating to Baldwinsville, NY from NJ
Just had twin girls and my husband and I are considering relocating to Baldswinville, NY (Syracuse area) from New Jersey. My husband loves fishing in the area and it seems like a really nice place to raise our daughters. However I have some questions: 1) Do we need a truck to get around in the winter time (we currently own two Honda Civics)? 2) What are snowy weekday mornings like with regards to snow removal from your driveway in order to drive to work? 3) Are schools closed a lot due to snow? 4) Here in NJ the plow trucks actually cause a wall of snow to build in front of our driveway...do they do the same in Baldwinsville? It seems that the school system is really good (as per greatschools.net). Is the school system good? I would really appreciate any feedback from anyone who lives in the Baldwinsville area. Thanks!

1) No you do not need a truck but you may want to think about getting a good set of snow tires for you Civics. If your all season tires still have good traction you should be fine but dedicated snow tires will be better.
2) You either have to get up early and shovel, use a snowblower, or what I do and highly recommend is hiring a plow service. I pay him $150 at the beginning of winter and by the time i get up in the morning my driveway is cleared so snow fall over night has never been an issue with me.
3) They usually close a couple times over the winter but usually only if there is a severe snowfall overnight or serverely low temperatures.
4) Yes the snowplows will push a wall of snow in front of your driveway but if you have a snow plow service this shouldn't be an issue.
and yes the school system is very good.

I pretty much co-sign off on what cusetownusa said. Baldwinsville is actually an area of Onondaga County that has been growing too.

By the way, you can pretty much move anywhere around here and it will be a good place for a family.

Thanks soooo much for your reply. We were hoping that there was a plow service or something of that nature. You just further confirmed our desire to move to Baldwinsville with all the great things you said. Thanks a million!!

Just have to second the above. B'ville is great. The holidays are fantastic here. Plus you can get to down town in about 20 minutes. The school district is definetly great. However a plow service is a must especially if you have to get an early start in the morning. I live in Radisson, a huge development in b'ville. It is quite picturesque.
