Carries ZERO weight among academics.

I've been on vacation the last week and a half so I haven't been looking at this website. But now that I'm back, I am going to jump right in
If you look at the original question it is to see what people LIKE about Syracuse. I think this thread needs to get back on target. There are other threads for listing one's dislikes and complaints. Thanks to Proulxfamily for posting some positives and I think its even more amazing that you were able to post positives of paying taxes

New drive: 104 to 14.
We all know the basics, for me, Old Forge, Lake Placid.
That was a new drive. And that's the point. Small Mennonite stand offering not just produce but eggs and more, if I'd not whipped by and not stopped because I had a mission. To get a gift certificate for a wedding present. I knew Skaneateles, and the MidLakes boat tours, but I wanted something closer to Rochester. Canandaigua Lake worked for us. Gorgeous drive.
If I mispelled any, sorry.

Must of been difficult as WI has none.

Wingfoot, I have a question for you, not an attack but a legit question. If you dislike CNY/Syracuse so much, which is quite apparent from your posts, I have to ask why do you post here? Why not post where ever you live or where you would like to live?

Nice of the guy who writes things like "Must of" to criticize the grammar of others.
Listen, Wingfoot: you're wrong. You're wrong for straying so for from the intended topic of this thread. You're wrong in that you're an ill-educated, negative poster whose contributions are mostly unfounded rants and conjecture presented as fact. You don't seem to know -- or care -- much about Central New York, and you're even incorrect about yet another of your Wisconsin claims. Wisconsin does indeed have community colleges within its state university system; here are some of them:
University of Wisconsin - Baraboo; University of Wisconsin - Barron County; University of Wisconsin - Fond du Lac; University of Wisconsin - Fox Valley; University of Wisconsin - Manitowoc; University of Wisconsin - Marathon County; University of Wisconsin - Marinette; University of Wisconsin - Marshfield; University of Wisconsin - Richland; University of Wisconsin - Rock County; University of Wisconsin - Sheboygan; University of Wisconsin - Washington County; University of Wisconsin - Waukesha
With yet another of your misrepresentations settled, and corrected, let us get back to the purpose of this thread. And since this forum has been, by and large, a pleasant and civil medium in which to discuss matters pertaining to Central New York, perhaps you ought not contribute if you fail to come up with anything positive.

These are NOT communnity colleges but two-year university centers giving
the first 2 years of general education for transfer to 4 yr schools in the UW systems.
Most of what is done at CC's is done at the Technical College System in WI.
IMHO the truth is positive.

I love Syracuse, I was born and raised there in the 50's when SYR was a major american city.
My entire point is that the confiscatory nature of property taxes is a major factor in its decline. And perhaps the only one capable of change by a concerted effort/fight by the people.
I post here in the apparently vain hope that silly people might rethink their silly assumptions and find just a little courage.

I disagree, although I believe taxes of a different sort are causing our city to decline. I believe corp and small business taxes are, IMO, causing the decline. These taxes make doing business here very cost prohibitive. Another cause of decline is our city/county leaders lack of vision and foresight. They would rather waste all of this money by backing this monstrosity called Destiny USA than using it as a tax break/incentive for businesses to relocate here. Our city is ideally placed to be sales hub, I have mentioned this vision of mine before in other threads, but think about our location--we are situated within 6 driving hours of several major east coast US and Canadian cities-NYC, Boston,Philly, DC, Toronto, etc. We should invite companies to setup regional sales offices here. We have everything a company would need--airport, excellent roads, office space, etc. But the only thing we dont have is a reason for them to relocate here. If out leadership would pull their heads out of you know where and realize the mall is ndont buy ot going to produce the kind of jobs that would truly benefit our economy--retail workers can't afford to buy houses, new cars, eat at restaurants, etc.
