No problem, I am just real sick of people, especially those going to NV and the southwest in general (excluding SoCal) thinking its some low cost Utopia. That is far from the truth, and in most cases your daily cost of living is alot higher, a great example, people there think $4.29 for a gallon of milk is a real bargin). Sure there are more jobs (the bulk being in the low pay services industry) but thats pretty much all it has over a place like Syracuse. Even the crime is worse, and the bad part of crime there (as you prob saw in my post in the Buffalo section) is its more spread out amonsgt the entire city whereas here its more localized to certain sections

I love our grocery budget... it's hard to beat what I paid today- $1.29/gallon for milk.

Exactly! People exaggerate the crime here and there are still quite a few nice urban neighborhoods in Syracuse.

Yes they do, crime is more confined to the "ghetto: sections, and I hate that term

Basically and even in those sections, no one will bother you if you are driving through and minding your business, for the overwhelming part. Heck, most of our hoods are mixed, including Whites, anyway. So, it's really just a matter of lifestyle.

Thats very true. I have never been compelled to lock my doors while driving through the city, even the north or southsides.Cant say the same about Vegas

I completely agree with everyone else. A lot of these other states sneek taxes in on people. For example, just yesterday I bought a gallon of milk at Walmart for $3.25 then the 9.5% sales tax is added on top of that. Everytime I grocery shop here I get stressed out trying to figure out how to reduce my overall cost. I would give anything for Syracuse's tax exempt groceries again!

Vegas
Food: 1823.00
Prop Tax 2275.00
Utils (gas, elec, water) 4800.00
Vehicle registration: $370.00 (thats yearly not every 4)
Vehicle Insurance: $2100/00

Grand Total 11368.00

Syracuse
Food: 1150.00
Prop Tax 4800.00
Utils (gas, elec, water) 3300.00
Vehicle registration: $25 (divided what it cost by 4 years)
Vehicle Insurance: $1025.00

Grand Total 10300.00

Annual savings of living in CNY $1068

Now this is a basic list and doesnt take into account other expenses that we have that are unique to my family, like parochial school (which is cheaper here). But proves that prop/school taxes are just a little part of a larger expenses equation

Your basic fallacy is comparing ANYWHERE to Las Vegas.

Taxes may have been a poor choice of words but in many cases the associated costs of those mentioned items can be higher in other areas that boast low property and school taxes
