I am looking to build a Savoy model Ryan home in the B-ville Harbor Heights area. Does anyone have any comments or warnings?

Is this a new, or an older home?

Since the question is about building a home with Ryan, I assume it's new.

Oh, sorry woops, On an unrelated note, I have actually done some work at their HQ in Reston, Virginia. The employees are very happy and get a discount on a home. From the inside they seem like a great company to work for.

Good luck with your home wherever you land :=) B'ville is my hometown, CW Baker is a great High School too.

From my understanding when Ryan first started out their construction was suspect but my Realtor has told me they have made great strides in terms of quality

They were the pits a number of years ago so if I were you I would do my homework first. They were actually a standing joke in the Rochester/Syracuse area among construction guys.

Default harbor heights

I am actually looking to build that same model in Harbor Heights as well. I was curious if you could share what you found out and if you went ahead and got it how do you like it?

Not sure about how they are in the Syracuse area, but in the South they are not the greatest builder. Check out the NC forum. Loads of dirt on them there.

Just remember you get what you pay for when dealing with home builders. A well built home is not going to come at a low price unless you build it your self. The reality is that home builders are like computer builders. They buy in bulk, score deals on half rate products, and cut as many cost cutting corners as they can. Be very careful and make sure you do a ton of homework before you hire anyone to build your home.

Do some research to find out what minimum code is and then match that up to the build methods used by the builder. If everything seems to be at minimum code you might want to find another builder. One that takes a little more pride on building things to last rather than building at the minimum requirements.

Find out what kind of problems are common in random homes within the area. Find out what the home builder is doing to prevent those issues in the homes they build.

Just because it looks good doesn't mean it will last.
