Is downtown Syracuse better than Buffalo?
Just saw some pics of Syracuse - very impressive - not every other building is boarded up or bullet ridden - okay so Buf isn't that bad but its hurting no matter how much they try....Syracuse looks a tad more pristeen - anybody been to both and have an opinion..btw I grew up In Bflo and love it to pieces but facts are facts..also are the property taxes in Syracuse area cheaper than Bflo? I was paying 10k on a 2700 sq ft 1998 nice house in Amherst in a great school district. Egregious!

You'll most likely get mixed reviews, but we love Armory Square. It's really cool, in terms of restaurants, socializing and clientele. In fact, we're seriously looking to buy a condo there.

Buffalo is depressing, to me. I even stopped going to Bills' games - though I would get free tickets through my employer - because the Thruway drive was depressing enough but then coming into Buffalo and seeing nothing but flat, industrial areas or generic neighborhoods was too much. I can only take so many split levels and gas stations before I want to rip my hair out. LOL
Taxes entirely depend on where you move... but when we were looking for homes, www.prudentialproperties.com was that best site for us. (No- I have no connection to them, nor did I use one of their realtors... their site was just the best to navigate.) They show the taxes for each listing.

I say that Syracuse is a little more filled out in terms of the neighborhoods. They are similar in terms of the arts and the area around the college campuses being nice. Sports are big in both cities and there is a Canadian influence in both somewhat, with Buffalo, of course, getting more of that. I think you will like Syracuse and we do have affordable suburban areas too.

Having spent a good deal of time in Buffalo growing up (had alot of older family there) I can say I do prefer Syracuse. It seems to be laid out better

It's not that bad. It has good and bad areas, but it is still a city with a lot to offer.

Actually, the Northside isn't bad until you go down Butternut and past Lodi to about a block from Grant and the part of Lodi a block north of Butternut to about a block from North Salina. Townsend, about a couple of blocks going east on is iffy too.
