Thank you davidmil for your candid take on the areas, and for your service in the military. While I like responsible neighbors, I'm more of a beer/barbecue guy than I am a wine/caviar guy.
I've also lived in a few different areas aside from Florida(and travelled to a lot of others as well)....so I usually get a decent feel for an area and can determine if it's right for me and my family. I got that feeling about the Cicero area...so on my next trip I'll hopefully see more areas and see what my second impressions are like on the one's I've seen.
Thanks again.

Davidmil, why don't you try breakfast at Emma's on Main in Caz on a weekday. You may be surprised to see all types of blue collar folks eating there. I don't know what incident caused this antipathy towards Caz, I consider myself a regular type guy and never ran into the attitude you keep referring to. Give it another try!
PS
Thanks for your Service to our Country!

The only thing with Cicero and Liverpool is that their school districts are very large. Graduation class in Liverpool is around 1,000 kids. I live in Baldwinsville and the schools are great, but smaller (graduate around 280). One of the best elementary schools in the entire area is McNamara. There are many nice homes for around 150k and many blue/white collar neighborhoods where everyone get together and has impromptu barbecues (when the weather is nice). Close to major highways and shopping.

Actually, the North Syracuse area would be perfect for you SteveMax58. I live in Mattydale, which is a suburb that is known for being more blue collar and is in the North Syracuse SD. My wife went to East Syracuse-Minoa and that also is a more balanced district in terms of economics and is good academically as well. Liverpool is good too and we lived in an apartment there for about 3-4 years. My wife and I liked it a lot. You might also like the B'ville area too. West Genesee might be another district to consider, especially in the Farimount part of the district.

B'ville brings up a good point about Baldwinsville. School systems are smaller. Over all it's a diverse area of blue/white collar mix, but they're all easy going. I have a neice and a cousin that live there. The cousin is almost redneck and the neice is just down home friendly but a busy busy soccer mom type. Her husband is a .com whiz that spends as much time drinking a beer and bass fishing as he can. Cool guy that makes some money( he sold his first business and retired but got bored and started up again). I think you'll find what you're looking for in any of those areas. If you don't, give me a call, we'll get you hooked up. LOL

Sorry, I meant the Fairmount area of the West Genesee school district.

Thanks everybody for more feedback. I'll be in the area this week and am planning to see 2 homes...one in B'ville and one in Manlius. Both seem like decent values(to me) but probably need some TLC(not a problem in my book).
Hoping for the best!!

Good luck and welcome. Both of the houses are in good areas and I think you can't go wrong either way.

Ugh...found out today that both houses are under contract. I guess I wasnt the only one who noticed they were good deals.
Took a ride to B'ville today and really liked it. Also did the same(for the second time) through Cicero yesterday. My trip through Manlius yesterday was kinda meh...not sure why...just didnt seem to do anything for me. Maybe I didnt go through the right areas?
I was a little concerned with what traffic might be like during rush hour on Highbridge(Rt92)...anybody take that drive daily, or often, or know people who do?
I'm going to check out a few other houses in Manlius tomorrow, so maybe I'll see some areas that I did not ride through yesterday. Also a little different getting a feel for an area during the winter...while it's nice to see what to expect in the winter...it's tough to see under all that snow what it looks like in the summer.

I thought you would like the B'ville area, as it has a mix of environments and is kind of like it's own thing, but is still a suburb of Syracuse as well. Manlius is alright and remember that there is a village of Manlius and the town of Manlius too. Did you go to the village of Fayetteville, which is also in the town and a part of the Fayetteville-Manlius school district?
Personally, the best time of year is Fall. That's when you see the natural beauty of the area at it's best.
