Having lived elsewhere, I've come to understand there are different definitions of "snowing". To oversimplify:
In DC area, it's "snowing" when there's a chance of snow listed on the forecast.
In south-central PA, it's "snowing" when a flake is seen in the air.
In Syracuse, it's "snowing" when you have to brush off the car.
(Back to DC, they don't know what "brush off the car" means. )

Good points! I truly believe that if natives weren't so quick to make fun of our own weather, visitors and outsiders wouldn't make such a big deal of the weather here either. Other cities have residents that defend their city from attack by outsiders, but here locally, Syracusans egg-on outsiders and join in at poking fun at Syracuse weather.

You'd be surprised how professional and classy the local TV news was in Syracuse before about 1991. That's what I grew up with. It slowly declined from 1991 to 1996. Then after I came back from college, it was just awful. Instead of professional reporters that respected the viewers and took their job and city seriously, it became Podunk town, woe-is-me, Syracuse sucks, why am I here mentality local news. Where just about everything was made into a joke. Hard to believe the Syracuse news used to have class and used to act like a top level market before the mid 1990s.

True, I remember a college roommate of mine from Michigan telling me how professional the news was in the are when he would visit his sister in the area.

A perfect example of the inability of local news media to get facts straight before reporting was Channel 9's website this evening. At the top of their website under the banner of "Breaking News" read "State Police Investigating Homicide in Liverpool." Upon clicking on this icon, there was no story. About 10 minutes later the headline was revised to read "State Police Investigating Homicide of Liverpool Woman." One would need to click on the story to find out the crime occurred over 200 miles away in Fishkill, Dutchess County not in the Syracuse suburb of Liverpool.
It's funny, I would have assumed this sensationalism and part error would have been committed by WSTM Channel 3. I still think Channel 9 is the better of the 3 stations.

I've come to expect it now. I'm almost sure they do it purposely....you know to get more clicks or viewers. Sadly, visitors or local college students do not often get the full story and are left with the lasting impressions of what the first headlines were. That is one reason why Syracuse has developed a poor reputation. Namely, the local news stretching the truth to catch viewer's attention with negative stories made to sound worse than reality....which is exactly what you said...sensationalism.

According to the guy's confession, per the Post-Standard, he killed her in their Clay apartment then drove to Dutchess County, so they weren't as far off as originally suspected.

I saw that too. The way in which Channel 9 covered it last night on the news was confusing. It was unclear what had occurred. I was left with more questions after seeing the news report than I had before seeing it. Whatever happened to the "what, where, how, who etc." approach to news coverage?
Off topic. The couple was originally from downstate. Last year a couple people that just moved here from Atlanta, GA robbed a store in Clay. That Castor lady was originally from Cayuga County. Seems like most the serious crime that happens around here are perpetrated by people that just moved here.
