Off topic. The couple was originally from downstate. Last year a couple people that just moved here from Atlanta, GA robbed a store in Clay. That Castor lady was originally from Cayuga County. Seems like most the serious crime that happens around here are perpetrated by people that just moved here.
I think it has more to do with the lower income nature of the 3 instances you mentioned. Someone that relocated to Syracuse from say Madison, WI and is employed as an engineer at Lockheed Martin is less likely to commit a violent crime than lifelong residents that are either unemployed, have drug problems, or have anger management issues. There is a big difference between people that relocate here with job opportunities or for retirement vs. those like the white trash Atlanta couple and this latest incident that appear to have other motives. In general, any time you have apartment complexes you tend to get more transient people. I do agree that people from crime ridden places like the Bronx that relocate here with their Section 8 vouchers and no job have a propensity to cause trouble.

I lived in a great apartment complex in Camillus, where sizable portion of the residents relocated to Syracuse from elsewhere. The vast majority were professionals that worked in IT, Finance, higher education and law. A few liked the Syracuse area so much, they purchased homes in the immediate area and established roots.

That's true. There is a difference as to who relocates and why. I will say that I think a lot of the crime here does involve people that came from other areas, but Syracuse has always had their issues with crime to some degree. Keep in mind that Syracuse, from 1985-2007 averaged 15 or so homicides a year. That's really not that bad, but it does show that such an element has been present in the area. Here's a good place to check such information:http://bjsdata.ojp.usdoj.gov/dataonl...epTwoLarge.cfm

According to the latest article in the P-S, both were unemployed. Who was paying their rent? Section 8? That is my biggest gripe. They should have stayed in Beacon/Fishkill.

I think the girl was from the Liverpool area and that's where they lived in one of the apartment complexes bunched together in the Candlelight Lane area, as I call it. There are some complexes in that area that do take Sec. 8, but I'm not sure if they lived in one of them.

Regardless, that whole situation is sad. Especially considering that they had a 6 month old son.

Being that I am from Fishkill, we've had even less reported about this story that what you all have up your way. Our paper didn't even mention they had a son. This whole thing is sad. I just found out more with the postings here than what is in our lousy newspaper.

Just for the record-most people in Fishkill aren't on section 8. It's not the city-although it's slowly becoming little Westchester. I grew up here when there were farms-not developments and if I could leave-I'd have left already. I prefer the Pulaski area myself. That's what I grew up with-not what's here.

I grew up in northern Westchester just a couple miles east of the Taconic State Parkway so I know the area pretty well. Fishkill has defintely developed alot in recent years, particuarly along the Route 9 corridor. Overall, I think it's a nice community. The Syracuse suburb of Liverpool is somewhat similar to Fishkill and Wappingers Falls, especially.

Pulaski has a nice campground called Selkirk Shores I believe.

This area has become a cesspool of over priced homes and snobs. Nothing I grew up with at all. It used to be a nice family community-now it's just a bedroom community to the NYC suburbs.

We've been going to Brennan Beach campground for over 20 years-it's our favorite place on Lake Ontario.
