Default Good Radio Stations?

I am a NPR listener, and have been for decades. I noticed an NPR affiliate that plays mostly jazz. Is that the only one in the area? (I love the older jazz stuff but not the modern)...anyway, just wondering. Radio is a BIG part of our lives.

Looking to replace our great 'WKAR' FM...here in East Lansing, Michigan...Lots of classical, folk, jazz and bluegrass...and of course, 'All Things Considered" and general news.

What are your fav radio stations in the CNY area?

There are 3 NPR affiliates in the Syracuse area.

There's Jazz88, which you found. Call letters are WAER: WAER - HOMEPAGE

And Classic FM (91.3 in Syracuse) - WCNY FM (the radio station associated with our PBS TV station): WCNY TV FM - Connected to YOU - Public Television - WCNY-FM

And the primary NPR programming station is WRVO-FM, The WRVO Stations Home Online . They have some weekend programming which is akin to a some of those you were talking about.

I have 6 options on our vehicle's radio... 89.9/90.1 (set to the latter but in certain areas, the former picks up better - like NPR and the oooollllld radio shows at night like The Great Gildersleeve and Gunsmoke), 93.1 (pop-rock), 95.7 (rock - 70's to present), 100.3 (old and new variety), 105.9 (easy listening/light rock), and 107.9 (pop-r&b/rap)

I also like Power 106.9, which is an urban Old School and R&B station, with Gospel on Sunday mornings. I listen to 1540 WSIV for Gospel, WHEN 620 and WNNS 1260 for sports radio.

Hey, thanks Proulx and CK...I'll check those out.

Love the oldies, but our radio stations here in SW Michigan are terrible..the oldies they spin (pre-recorded) are the songs I used to hate!...and can't believe they pawn these songs off as music..I would love to find an oldie station that plays GOOD oldies, not just "Jeremiah Was A Bullfrog" and "Young Girl Get Out of my Life", by the Buckinghams. OMG. No wonder I turn to classical. LOL.

Thanks for your help...

Isn't it true that Syracuse is the smallest market with a dedicated commercial classical station? I think I read that somewhere.

Probably and I think it is the same in terms of having an Opera too.
