Speaking of Solar Street, work has also begun at the inner harbor where Bankers Healthcare bought up the old Dry Dock Grill restaurant. Unfortunately, the site down the street at 432 N Franklin is still quiet.

Oh, and St. Joesph's is continuing with its expansion, which I suppose is exciting.

Also, there are plans in the works for the redevelopment of the Engleburg Huller Building at 831 W. Fayette St. I found the article on the CNYBJ website the other day but its now blocked by a paywall. I found a link for the article on the Near Westside Initiative Facebook page, down the page on a post dated April 18th. I can't link directly as it just redirects to the Facebook log in page.

And finally, it appears someone actually did acquire the old Sam Dell property on the Westside of Syracuse. I guess we'll see if anything actually comes to that beaten up property.
Tyrosine, did you make it to the planning commission meeting yesterday? I'd be surprised to see that JCC proposal make it through without some strong objections from neighbors.

Factory renovation on West Fayette looks good, as does everything in that neighborhood. I'd like to see the city improve infrastructure over there (the upcoming West Street work looks like lipstick on a pig), but that building is still under a five-minute walk from downtown and surrounding by increasingly interesting neighbors.

Young man, I'm not saying this to be rude, but you really ought to improve your writing, critical thinking, and demeanor if you want to have a productive back-and-forth on here.

A handful of people were discussing real issues involving Destiny; jumping in with insults, cliches, and buzzwords mashed together into a rant rife with syntactical and spelling errors does not benefit anyone.

It's possible to disagree without resorting to that kind of behavior. You might surprise yourself and learn something. I think that's why many of us are here.

(And, speaking of learning something, does anyone know what's become of Phaelon? He was a valuable contributor on here and I don't recall seeing him in months.)

I had to look at the site to figure out what the heck was being talked about - I didn't know that building was the JCC before. It was rented by SU and a daycare facility for a long time.

It's a rapidly deteriorating site, and seems like a generally worthy proposal. Size-wise, it's not out of line with any of the surrounding structures. Housing Visions has generally done a pretty good job in the area. But then again, on the opposite corner is the same family (family friends, actually) that objected to turning the plastic surgeons' building into the new co-op. *shakes head*

I reply through iPhone most of the time. That is why I could careless to fix spelling and grammatical errors but if you're still having trouble understanding me then maybe you should go back to school and learn how to problem solve. In this case it shouldn't take much or long to figure out what I'm trying to say, in fact, it is just a lame excuse for you being wrong. I'd love to hear why destiny won't work and what would be a better fit for that piece of land? Also, what else can bring in an equivalent amount of jobs and tax revenues for our area? Finally, talk about why destiny won't help trickle down and help other areas out in our city? Pardon me for any spelling or grammar errors since I do not revise what I write since I don't feel obligated to nor have the time to

To Becca.... First of all, I wasn't talkin to you..second of all, I never expected anyone to answer me in five seconds; nice assumption though....third of all, if he's not jealous of one's prosperity then he is clearly uninformed on the positives and the reasons why destiny is great for our area...sadly, you and everyone else laughing at me has failed to provide reasons with why destiny will be a failure...you guys have focused on my negatives instead of reading and responding to the true point of the argument in the first place....oh and the part where you try bashing me for thinking outside the box for trying to come up with ways to make our airport better and cost efficient is pretty low of you...you should never degrade anyone for thinking outside the box in hopes of making something better...shows what type of person you are

It's just an idea...maybe someone can take that idea and use it to come up with a better idea...just like a few years ago we had an ice storm and national grid was thinking of ways to effectively remove ice off of power lines and someone said put honey on top of the power lines and let the bears go up and eat the honey. As a result, bears will shake the power lines when climbing up the power lines in hopes of getting free honey. Well someone else heard that idea and said why don't we fly helicopters over the power lines instead and shake off the ice that way...and that is the idea they ended up taking...so nice to know that you're just another closed minded person who doesn't see that side of thinking outside of the box...no wonder why you can't see that destiny can be very beneficial to our area.

I don't care if you were talking to me or not - this is a public forum. You posted your response and then THREE MINUTES LATER posted about him not responding. So yes, you did seem to want a response within 3 minutes. I honestly could care less about the Congel/Destiny debacle so I'm not even getting involved in that.

You really are continuing to dig yourself a deeper hole here. I didn't bash you, I stated a fact - you wanted to give up airport safety to save money. Several people gave reasons why that was not in safety's best interest and you continued to rant about the regulations causing problems.

You should educate yourself more before you go on these rants.

Says the one who wrote this:

Quote:
if you don't support him it is simply because of two reasons 1.) stupidity 2.) lack info 3.) both...
Which is patently false, and blindly ignorant; blind following of a project without criticism (for which there are many valid ones, brought up in this thread) is a dangerous thing, and so is branding any objection to any facet of the project as stupid or uninformed.

The world is not black and white, and there are tons of gray areas, particularly when it comes to economic development.

And as to this, from earlier:
Quote:
It is his property, therefore, his right to do whatever he wants with his property.

One last comment; no one tells you what to do on your own property. If you want to plant roses instead of tulips; then it is your right to do so, even if Joe Shmoe doesn't like how they look and thinks you're ruining the looks of his community/ neighborhood.
That's patently false. Planning, zoning, and all manner of community opinion definitely have a say in what you do on your property. Especially when much of the land is acquired through eminent domain as this project has been.
