I haven't had time to look through the whole plan, but it is heartening to see that the county government is at least looking at this problem and may be on the path to curbing sprawl.
It is nice to see a plan and a vision for what the area could look like, along with the ongoing development. It is a matter of it coming to fruition.

And a matter of enforcement. The previous county executive's dereliction of responsibility really worsened the sprawl problem.

Nice timing on this story, coming right after Manlius announced the further degradation of the Route 92 corridor with another greenfield subdivision approval.

Newest floor plan shows further reduction of the retail space (replacing it with a second lobby); it also appears that the tenth floor has been leased. http://www.merchants-commons.com/wp-...floor-plan.pdf

IMO, students with cars or access to a ride (and the motivation) will go to Wegmans for major shopping and those on South Campus or just needing a few quick things will go to the Tops on Nottingham Road. I think a large grocery store on the edge of downtown in easy walking distance from the renovated Townsend Towers and the new Salina/Warren residential developments stands a chance but it will be a few years before it's viable.

Hope to pop in here again a bit more often. I've been buried with aging parents responsibilities and my online activity - including here and Facebook - has just dwindled down to nearly non-existent. I cleared their house, sold it and did the closing yesterday, have them situated in their new home, have the in-home health care situation stabilized and am starting to breathe again (a little bit.)

Heard a few years ago that strong and healthy suburbs actually help cities out. Anyone else hear the same?

I wonder what the reasoning was behind that statement?

That's why I brought that statement up? I am wondering if anyone else heard the same and if so what would be the reasoning behind it?

Default Onondaga Lake Shoreline Survey

This summer I am working as an intern with F.O.C.U.S. Greater Syracuse. We are currently working on a contract with Onondaga County regarding the future of the Onondaga Lake Shoreline. This includes any type of commercial development, new investments in recreation, museums or education centers, etc. As part of our work with the County, we are asking interested people to fill out our annonymous survey.

The survey lists different ideas that have been proposed for the shoreline. People are encouraged to mark which ideas are their favorite, and which projects they want to see happen first. There is also space to mark which projects you would be opposed to.

The survey only takes 3-4 minutes to complete. Please take a moment to submit it. With the progress Onondaga Lake is making in terms of water quality, we now have an opprtunity to create a beautiful waterfront with great amenities that will truly establish a sense of community for the future of Central New York.

You can take the survey here: http://adobe.ly/Ocvo6B

Thank you in advance! (Plus, if you deeply care about this topic, we can start a discussion on the proposals here on the Forum. ( Im going to create a new thread about the survey as well. I can respond to any comments or concerns with as much information as I can share. Or feel free to message me as well).

This is awesome! I'd love to see hotels, apartments, bars, shops, a huge beach, museums, aquarium, and maybe a casino. Lets all help make Syracuse a fun and entertaining city, all while bringing in more tax revenue for Onondaga county and the city of Syracuse. Developers should keep the Liverpool side of the lake a family friendly park where families can walk and picnic. Meanwhile, the Solvay side of the lake should be the entertainment side where bars, shops, restaurants, casino, and beach go. Unfortunately, the only way Onondaga County can achieve this is by selling most of their land to private developers. Sadly, knowing Syracuse's past history, they'll just add some signs, make the park a little bigger, more family friendly, and call it a day.
